DaySleeper27 08-25-2005, 11:53 AM Pointless to worry about it at 2 months. Play safe from here on in...
Get tested at 3 months for 95 - 97% certainty.... then 3 months later for the 99.9% accuracy.
Don't know where you're located, but I'd suggest calling your local health department for information on free/low cost hiv testing in your area.
last1 08-25-2005, 01:05 PM CAVV: From everything your are telling us, I would believe that you have nothing to worry about. You tested negative after two months. You practiced safe-sex just before the test wtih a condom that did not tear. And,I suspect you have not had sex since then either with or without a condom. Right? I truly believe that you are doing exactly what you said you are doing and that is driving yourself crazy. In fact if anxiety and fear were symptomatic of HIV then it would appear as though we all would have it. However, just be absolutely sure, you might want to be tested three months after the initial exposure...and then, you'll know for sure. chris
MrJon 08-25-2005, 03:13 PM I have a question, the numbers quoted above about 95-97% accuracy at 3 months, where is that from because here in the UK 3 months is concrete unless a compromised immune system is present. In fact 3 months is considered conservative and I think that the CDC says 13 weeks, and they are being extremely conservative. here in the UK, The Terrance Higgins Society say that after 6 weeks negative testing will stay that way.
DaySleeper27 08-25-2005, 06:20 PM MrJon, I wish I could quote the site in here, as I tried to on one posting... but it blocks it out... is there a way to post the links to the sites in which I quote from when providing information?
[Thankyou I need to just relax my mind and calm myself down about things the human mind is crazy... I think of things to drive myself nuts about is this normal? no! I just needed someone to ease my mind i want to move on with my life and stop the worrying and I thank God everyday all my tests were negative the reason i got tested wa sbecause i had unprtoected sex 3-4 months prior to that test
DaySleeper27 08-25-2005, 06:26 PM And I had misread the original message "had sex with someone with a condom on 2 months prior to that testing" was read as without a condom.
Quit worrying, you'll worry yourself sick..... Testing is the only 110% sure way to know.
DaySleeper27 08-25-2005, 06:46 PM MrJon - San Francisco AIDS Foundation is the place that the site I got information from credited the information to.
DaySleeper27 08-25-2005, 06:52 PM Actually even here on WebMD they tell you that some people take up to 6 months to develop antibodies.
CARAT414 08-26-2005, 02:48 AM Okay, STOP and BREATH. You are going to pass out at the rate you are going.
Logically from what you have told us you are over thinking this. If you were tested negative 3-4 months after unprotected sex and you had no open wounds and neither did your partner then I would believe that you are in fact negative. That is assuming you have not had any risky encounters since that testing.
ADD is something that you are born with and the symptom would have been quite clear long before now. So I doubt it would just appear now. If I was you, I would go to the local health clinic and test again. When it comes back as negative, which I am sure it will, stop stress over the what ifs??? and start practicing safer sex.
As to your enjoying your next partner without being worried statement. Until you can be 500% sure that the person you are with is negative for every STD and symptom you should always protect yourself as though they tested positive. There is NO SEX or FEELING that is worth your health. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!
Be careful, I think you are worth it.
DaySleeper27 08-26-2005, 01:09 PM Couldn't agree more with Carat though it did take a good friend of mine testing positive before I realized that. Then I went from reigning **** of the year (for several years) to the abstaining retired **** of the year in my circle of friends.
Sex can wait, at least till I know what the person is like.. and get to know them well enough to not make it uncomfortable to talk about tests and testing.
MrJon 08-26-2005, 03:57 PM Oh right I just read that those figures are now outdated, and that three months is considered conclusive. The UK are definately stating that and I have scoured around and it seems to be the case everywhere else. They would not lie about it.
DaySleeper27 08-27-2005, 04:45 AM Single Possible or Known Exposure
Most infected persons will develop detectable HIV antibody within 3 months of exposure. If the initial negative HIV test was conducted within the first 3 months after exposure, repeat testing should be considered >3 months after the exposure occurred to account for the possibility of a false-negative result. If the follow-up test is nonreactive, the client is likely not HIV-infected. However, if the client was exposed to a known HIV-infected person or if provider or client concern remains, a second repeat test might be considered >6 months from the exposure. Rare cases of seroconversion 6--12 months after known exposure have been reported. Extended follow-up testing beyond 6 months after exposure to account for possible delayed seroconversion is not generally recommended and should be based on clinical judgment and individual clients needs. - CDC states - http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5019a1.htm
MrJon 08-27-2005, 08:13 AM But thats being conservative. I am being assured by someone who works in the field everyday that 3 months is enough.
