I didnt tell him about my sexual encounter but when I did tell him all the symptoms he said he couldnt think of one illness that would casue all my symptoms and he suggested that I take medication for depression so he thinks its all stress. Hes doing another blood test and hes checking my thyroid this time so I should know if anything is really going on in my body. BAsically I want to find out if there were any alternative causes of all the symptoms I've been experiencing and if my blood work and everything is ok it will give me courage to get tested for hiv so I can put this behind me once and for all.

I did get my blood work results and the doctor said everything was normal, even my thyroid and blood sugar. This tells me that the symptoms Ive been experiencing are very likely stress related because if it were hiv, there would have been some abnormal levels in my bloodwork. You just dont experience all those chronic symptoms for more than 3 months and have normal bloodwork if they were a result of a virus attacking your body. Even the doctor told me it was stress. All I did was tell him my symptoms and I didnt mention anything to him about being stressed out. On top of it all, my sexual contact was low risk. I performed orally on another man, I didnt notice any precum and he did not ejaculate in my mouth. I guess what scared me the most was the fact that the individual was "high risk" hes had threesomes, he has body piercings and he like African-Americans which is a high risk group for hiv. However, he did say he was careful and not stupid so maybe he uses protection when he engages in high risk acts. The visit to the doctor has made me feel better. Ever since I went to the doctor, I noticed my saliva glands have been producing more saliva so my dry mouth is stress related. My armpits arent sore any more but i'm still a little tired which is also stress related i'm sure. Other than that, im fine. My throat problems have vanished. So the next step for me to take is to get test for hiv so I can get pass this and move on.

Nope, test now, three months is just fine, the link provided in another post was two years ago. Three months is plenty. I dont know why nobody is backing me up with this.

I've heard the same MrJon. My own doctor as well as a couple of internet doctors have said 3 months is conclusive, and final.

meanwhile my doctor has put me on citalopram, an antidepressant. So I shall see if it help and if my symptoms (tiredness/stiffness) goes away.

Im sorry to seem like Im flogging a dead horse here, but I heard that you can get false negatives up to 6 months. I just went for a test yesterday as my husband and I both got tested 3 months after we got together and heard about the 6 month thing years later. We're both hep c + & he has b too, & we were high risk before getting together. We've been careful since but have had thrush, big staph infections, tiredness etc. It could be the HCV playing up, so I guess I'll know next week. Meanwhile, I feel pretty nervous.

Hi there,

i wouldn't worry - the three month test IS now considered conclusive UNLESS there are severe mitigating factors otherwise. Hep C, Hep B - wouldnt affect it, in fact, they may even shorten it!!!

If you are negative at three months, you are 'in the clear'

i think (now please someone correct me if im wrong) the vast majority of people who WILL test positive do so within the first 6-8wks (like 95%+) with the remaining 5% seroconverting within the 8-12wk window.

I was informed that the vast majority will seroconver between 4-6 weeks, with the average being 3 weeks :) Hope that helps!

Hey thanks you guys. I will worry less until my results come back. I think deep down, no matter how long I live a 'normal' lifestyle' I'm always waiting for god to kick me in the pants for past deeds. I know that's illogical. Praps I should take myself off to the anxiety boards now. :p .. Thanks again all.
