Hi all....
Wondering in my "limbo" state here (another not dx....) if anyone with a dx or not--has tried any other tx besides the "real" drugs. Even when/if I ever get dx, unless I am TOTALLY incapacitated at the moment--I'd like to avoid drugs. I've had soooo many bad experiences in the past and have many drug allergies (not a time I wanna find a 'new' one to add! )
Anyway--wondering if anyone has tried alt. therapy: Acupuncture/pressure,
asian med, homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropractic--etc? We have a new practicioner of asian med in town--the local new article on her was interesting and I was thinking of giving her a call: Maybe even without deffinite dx she could at least help symptoms?! :)
Thanks for input...Hope all have a good weekend

I have been getting acupuncture and have been also under the treatment of an herbalist for the past year and a half. I recommend it highly and try to post, where appropriate, my experiences with these treatments. I've had GREAT success. I have elected not to try the current MS drugs on the market because I am also a Type I diabetic and there are no studies on the effects of these MS drugs on people who also have diabetes AND because I feel the clinical trials on these MS drugs are irresponsibly short and unproven. There is no real way to prove that these drugs actually work or that they don't do more damage in the long run. I believe these drugs are like going after a mosquito with a baseball bat...

On to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)... I have experienced a tremendous amount of relief from chronic pain (pain I didn't even realize I was suffering until it was gone). I have more energy and am sleeping better than I ever have. Secondary symptoms that MS patients ofetn complain about, like digestive problems are GONE. I've had one flare-up since using these treatments. The ON attack I was having stopped in its tracks once I started certain herbs and needle points. It didn't go away right away but it didn't get ANY worse and I believe the duration of the attack was short compared to my other bout of ON I had 8 years ago. I didn't get any of the numbness and fatigue I've had in the past with flare-ups.

The thing about TCM is that there is no treatment per se for MS or diabetes or whatever else, those are Western Medicine diagnoses. MS symptoms vary greatly from person to person. I think you should pursue these avenues with one cautionary note: if you do have MS, your acupuncurist should NOT use any standard treatment formations. He or she needs to be very careful to NOT overload your system. My acupuncurist read case studies of practioners who had treated MS patients and used the treatment that cooresponded closest to my situation.

I hope this helps. If you have other questions, I'd be happy to answer them to the best of my experience and knowledge on the subject.

Oh Sunshine...
thanks for shedding some (sunshine--er) on the subject!
I kind of had the feeling that tcm deals more with chi than actual disease like western med. From what I've heard--they check and find the root cause and treat that not just the problem (ie:if you have IBS western give you a pill: TCM finds 'why' you have that problem and where it is coming from--??)
Don't know if thats right--.
Anyway, you mentioned that if I did get dx finally--that the acupuncturist should NOT use any "standard tx formations" and be careful not to overload my system--Can you explain please? Is that the "needle placement" (as in formation??) or herbs or??? So what youre saying is that your acupuncturist studied and treats your individual symptoms--not the "standard disease of MS?"
Sorry for the long question--but it sounds like you've really been helped and I figured that even if the Dr.s (western) were not agreeing on what it is I have--I still want some relief! I am sooo tired of being treated like a hypochondriac! :bouncing: Even if it's NOT MS (which I doubt--but) and it is fibromyalgia or whatever--It is STILL MESSING UP MY LIFE FOR NOW! Life is too short to put up with this when I can at least try to get help---right?
Besides, I'm afraid that if they do finally dx me officially--my health ins will go way up (esp if we move out of state and have to get new ins  ) and then the dr. won't be really pleased that I won't just "accept" certain treatments and drugs. I agree with your baseball bat & mosquito theory---with lots of things!
Thanks for taking the time to help--much appreciated
PS...just started a TaiChi class--hoping it will help: Yoga is getting kind of difficult some days--oh well, We carry on ...

Thanks :)
