I was diagnosed with osteoporosis about 2 years agao. My hip is quite bad and will need replacement. The main pain I have is in the groin area however my knee is quite sore all the time on the same side. I do take Actonel. I can still use my elliptical trainer and am not in horrid pain and will put it off as long as I can. Is knee pain common when the diagnosis is for hip replacement?

Last September I was having groin and knee pain as well as hip pain so I went to the doctor. After trying anti-inflammatories, chiropractor, and just staying off it, none of which worked, I asked for a bone density test and an MRI. The bone density revealed osteoporosis in my spine and osteopenia in my hips. The MRI revealed avascular necrosis in my painful hip. When I looked up avascular necrosis symptoms, the groin and knee pain were the most common. AVN is when there's no blood supply getting to the joint, causing the bone to die. Don't want to worry you, but since the symptoms match, you might ask your doctor about it.
