Well, went to my new neuro today. (Thank you to luvtocamp & lisa for their replies to my post last night. -I forget my list when we left the house this morning, go figure.) I am so frustrated. She started out asking a few questions and then proceeded to tell me that since I have already had an MRI in January there is no reason to do another one. Without lesions of a certain size she won't dx MS. She thinks it is over dxed. And anyway I am "too young" - I am 29 for pete's sake and feel like 89. She says all of this without ever seeing my results or checking the notes already in my chart. She decides after five minutes or so that I need anxiety meds. Thank you have a nice day! Thank god my husband was there! He stepped in and started asking questions. She finally agreed to at least examine me. After the whole "dog and pony show" was over she insist that I have another MRI asap and then a LP if needed. She also explained to us that she doesn't treat many MS patients, she sends them to someone else. She also told us that she feels that sometimes there are no answers for what is going on with our bodies.

UGH! I am ready to pull my hair out. I know I am just ranting and raving but it feels so much better to get it out. Otherwise it will just fester!

Sorry this turned out to be so long. I guess my rage fueled my tired body. I suppose I didn't realize that in this area their medical training teaches them to be devoid of listening skills and to develop a lack of personality.

I'm glad you are having more testing. Doctors are like everyone else: a few winners and a whole lotta losers.

Well, I'm "too OLD" (47)! How's THAT!!! (WebMD says MS most often strikes adults between 20 and 50.) Nevertheless my neuro ordered tests, I guess because she doesn't believe "...there are no answers for what is going on with our bodies." And she consulted with other neuros to arrive at my dx of MS. Honestly, that just sounds like a lazy neuro.
I'm very glad your husband was there. It is troubling, but not surprising I guess, that doctors sometimes impose their personal agendas on patients. Just isn't ethical in my opinion. It isn't, after all, HER BODY you were there to see about. Maybe it is OK for her to be ignorant about HER health, but you don't have to settle for that. Did you (or your husband) happen to ask which neuro usually does see her MS patients?

Boy, that was pretty rude. Good thing she usually sends her MS patients out to another neuro because that's what I would have done after her attitude. It upsets me because if we know that an MRI does not necessarily have to show lesions to be dx with MS, why are the Dr.'s making assumptions like this? It could be years before lesions show up and that's wasted treatment time, IMHO.

Maybe she had a hot date?

I doubt a HOT date. Maybe a stuffed-shirt date, arrogant like her. (Sorry, I get mean sometimes...)

Thank you all! I was fuming on Friday! I talked to my mother-in-law last night (who was dxed after 15 years of symptoms - no lesions until 3yrs ago.) and that helped. I am going to call my PC and talk to her about it. She is the one that already discussed my situation with the MS specialized neuro and this appt was suppose to be to the point. We did find out the name of the Dr, happens to be the same one that my husband's friend's wife goes to. (She was finally dxed last Nov by a different neuro in the area and put on the wrong dose of meds. She is now going to the new MS neuro and doing much better. She actually had lesions for years now but the neuro she was going to said they "weren't big enough to dx MS".)

I was absolutely amazed with my appt - who treats patients like that! I will not be seeing her again!

My first neuro said the same thing. "Your lesion isn't big enough". It's a fact that for some people, they may have huge lesions but very little sx, and then there are people just the opposite. So I asked him why there were flares in my white matter....humpft. Dare I question his judgement? You bet. I'm praying that both of our new neuro's are what is needed.
