I have quit many times using one or the other. This last time I quit smoking, (23 months ago) I quit with the patches. They work very well. My hubby quit with the gum, and later I switched to the gum. One good thing about the gum, (for me, anyway) is I don't seem to want to snack as much, and easier to keep my weight down...the bad side of it is, it's addictive too, for some of us. Hubby and I are still chewing it,...but at least we are not smoking! :)
GOOD LUCK..with whatever you chose to use...

Hi
I am on my fourth day of quitting, but so determined to kick the nasty habbit!
I am using Lozengers, as the patches give me really bad aches and pains where ever i put them.... I also dont like the taste of the gum.
I find the lozengers great, as i am just having them as i would a cigarette, and helps me avoid eating too much (sometimes)
I guess it depends on why you smoke? I smoked allot of the time because i was fidgity and didnt want to eat to much... therefor the patches dont work for me and eating a lozenge really does! :) ....

I have done both and definately the patch is the way to go. I got on the gum and now I can't get off it. It is also very expensive. I am going to have to start smoking to get off the gum. ( just kidding) I tryed to do the patch but now I only want the gum. Good luck, Lizard50

Well I quit smoking 3 and a half years ago using the gum. The problem is I still chew the gum. I quit chewing it when I got pregnant with my twins and chewed very a couple a day while I nursed them, which lasted a year. But now that I am "ME" again..not being pregnant, nursing, I have gone nutso with the gum. I can't seem to stop chewing it. I also feel like I have to start smoking again to kick the gum habit. But I prefer the gum to the thought of a cigarette. I think that is good, however I wonder if there are many health risks associated with chewing the nicotne gum. Anyone know?

I know, I know isn't that gum wicked?! Hated the taste at first then quickly grew to love it.....didn't help with the quitting though....chewed and smoked. Only negative effects: gum is sooo hard and chewy ...it took out a few fillings.
Works for some and not for others ...just like the patch, if people need that little extra support, either one will help out. :)

Yep...I'm another one hooked on the gum--big time too. I quit with the patches, and was doing fine on my little 7 mg patch. Some days I wouldn't even remember to put one on, till like 3 in the afternoon. Well, my hubby quit with gum, and he would leave little packs of em laying around the house. One day I asked him if I could have one, and I've been hooked ever since!!! (About 8 months now) Him and I LOVE the taste of it, especially when you 1st put it in your mouth, chew 2 x, and "park it". You get a little mental high from it, I think. Anyway, it's been 2 years since I quit, and we're always saying, "at least we're not smoking"...LOL! :D Excuses...excuses!!
I've read it can cause problems with your gums and teeth. I have had some irritated gums, and tongue too. And one dentist I had years ago told me that it could cause TMJ, from all that constant long term chewing.
We're thinking of using 7 mg patches to get off the gum. But not yet...

I tried the patch years ago but couldn't tolerate it. It gave me heart palpitations and severe insomnia.
I'm using the gum right now and doing pretty well with it. I'm only on day 25 though, so I don't know how well it's going to work in the long term.
I've been wondering how easy it is to get off the gum, so I'm not happy to hear that some of you are hooked on it. I guess I shouldn't get ahead of myself; maybe I'll be able to get off.
