I've just come on board here and noticed the CP board.
I'm 45 and have mild CP left side. Left leg is shorter then right and motor function of my left hand is affected as is balance. I'm also visually impaired, blind in right eye limited central vision in left. I didn't think much about having CP over the years. Or at least not until 9 years ago.
As a child my mom was told to make me walk and to teach me to be mindful or heel toe, heel toe. Well, over the years, walking became habit and during my twenties, I thought nothing of walking a few miles in a day. I didn't give it a second thought until like I said, 9 years ago when i began to notice discomfort that grew to become a noticable pain in my lower back. As time has gone on, my ability to walk a few blocks pain free has become a major issue. I have since found out that I have as the radiologist who did the report on the MRI put it, very bad arthritis in my lower spine. I'm going into my doctor soon to find out what kind I have. It's in my research on arthritis that I came here. Anyway, That's my only real problem in regards to mobility these days. Apart from the normal winter conditions and wind being a problem.
But, CP doesn't affect any other part of my life. I'm married to my childhood sweetheart. No children but we live in a big town house with 29 stairs from top to bottom. My work is of a volunteer nature and is very rewarding.
If anything, my finding out a couple of years ago that I have a nut allery, has given me more grief then the CP has. But I am worried about this walking issue because I'm a guide dog user and would not be able to continue this independent way of travel if I can't come to an agreeable outcome.
Hope my intro isn't too long winded. Look forward to posting here. :bouncing:
