I got the IUD in February because I started taking Topamax in January for headaches and they said it could interfere with my birth control pills. I noticed that my hair started falling out and I thought it was the Topamax. I have been off of Topamax (because it didn't help) for about 5 months now and my hair still seems to be falling out. So now I am thinking it is the IUD. Has anyone had this experience with the Mirena IUD?

I have the Mirena IUD and I am also taking Topamax to prevent migraines. I haven't experienced any hair loss and hope that I don't. I have only been on the Topamax for a little over a month, and I've only had the IUD for 3 months.

Let me know if you find out which, if either of them, is causing your problem.

Hi,

I believe Mierna has the same type of hormone as Depo-provera but at a much smaller dose. Any BC when going on or coming off might casue hair loss. I would suggest seeing your doctor on it. Good luck.
