Has anyone made one? What is it? Do you think you will stick with it? Have you been successful with resolutions in the past?

Is this a moral decision or a health decision?

started as a health decision, but after reading several books on vegetarianism this is as much as a moral decision than a health one.

Hi,
Well, I decided to try something different. My new years resolution is to STOP TAKING DIET PILLS.
I dont want to depend on those anymore. Also to start eating healthier to maintain my weight. Introducing some carbs back into my diet plan along w/ exercise three times a week.
When my husband comes home from deployment we are going to try and conceive. I want to make sure I am healthy. And I think this is the best thing for me.

Sinnrah - I picked up the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and it includes a "pregnancy diet" that you might be interested in. It says that the only difference when TTC and when actually pregnant is that you need one less serving of calcium and one less of protein.
I can post generalities if you're interested? I want to TTC as well ... probably early summer for us .. and I want my body to be a temple ;-D

Chelle,
That would be really great if you could. The book I have is Your Fertility Signals. But it has nothing about what a good healthy diet is when ttc.
I am on day one of my new years resolution for no diet pills. So far so good.
I just keep telling myself babysteps. LOL And maybe I will hear babysteps when DH gets home. :)

I think weaning yourself from diet pills is great. I know you are not supposed to take supplements other than a prenatal vitamin when PG. Since you were taking an ephedra-based pill; you'll probably notice a lack of energy more than anything else.
The actual chapter was fairly long, but here are the 'requirements':
6-11 servings of whole grains, legumes and peanuts (6 if you're gaining too quickly; 11 if you're gaining too slowly): grains give you fiber, some protein and the B vitamins. There's been some correlation between B6 and morning sickness (if you eat enough; you might not have it). The only B vitamin not supplied by whole grains is B12 and that comes from animal protein.
3 servings of protein (2 for TTC) or btw 60-75g (45 for TTC)
4 servings of calcium (3 for TTC)
3 servings of vitamin C (OJ, 1/2 grapefruit, 1/2c mangos)
3 servings of yellow & green leafy vegetables & fruits
2 servings of "other" vegetables
4 servings or 8 1/2 servings of fat
The book suggests trying to be "efficient" when meeting the requirements. By getting a partial serving of protein and a serving of calcium in 6oz of yogurt or by getting a vitamin C and a calcium in fortified OJ. Stuff like that.

Hey Chelle,
Thanks for the info. I am going to print it out. I totally forgot that I gave my neighbor my book, What to Expect when your expecting. LOL So I do have a book to look at. I just have to get it back from her. LOL She is the same age as I am at is pg. Well she is 32 a year older, but it bothered me the other day I saw her with a cigarette :( She hasnt stopped.
I feel alright considering this is my first day off of diet pills. I actually dont feel as hungry as I did when I was on them. I have lost all of the weight I am going to want to lose and now I just am having to teach myself how to maintain w/out thinking I need diet pills.
As far as being tired, well, my parents came down to see me, and she got me sick. :( I am tired from not feeling well. Sore throat and dry cough is kicking my rear.
Keep sending me information on ttc out of that book if you would.
Thanks again.

Sinnrah - I'll have to do some more reading. I know the book does say that if you at least quit smoking within the last month of pregnancy you lessen some of the risks. It drives me nuts to see people smoking or drinking when they're obviously PG though. How far along is your neighbor? Hopefully she'll return your book before you conceive ;-D
Oh, some other things the book suggests for preparing are to get a complete physical and go to the dentist to get any xrays, etc done now. They won't hurt your baby, necessarily, but its better to take care of it now. And the physical should catch any issues that you aren't aware of yet. The book suggested a thyroid test as the thyroid function could affect your baby's mental development along with a test for diabetes and a couple of other things.
What BC do you use? Or were you using? I thought you said BCP on the PG board. If so, the book suggests two full cycles before TTC. DH and I are going to use condoms for probably 4 months before we even start. Depo is like 6 months wait and spermicide is a month and a half.

Hey Chelle,
I have not been on Birth Control in years. We just always did w/drawal. Which is not a safe form of birth control but it has worked so far.
My neighbor is probably 5 months now. Maybe six months along.
When I start to feel better I will go and get my book. :) I just got back from the store. Had to buy more tea. I have become a tea drinking freak. Decaffenated.
Oh, and so far NO DIET PILLS. :)
