I really need to start flushing my stomach out because of too much acne and pimples. I took a laxative but it did not work well, it was as if I didn't need it. I think I have some sort of kidney problems, could that have anything to do with me not getting the desired results from the laxative??

I was also thinking of exercising because I need to be more healthy and I hate being so weak (I have a heart murmur...). How can I speed up my metabolism? I heard that if you eat like 7 small meals a day it speeds up but I do know know what would be appropriate to eat throughout the day. If the 7 meal a day thing is correct can someone suggest some recipes and/or links to recipes??

Hi there,

You don't mention what kind of diet you have. From what I've read, acne is not caused by any one food, but by an overall poor diet/unhealthy lifesyle, hormones & stress (to name a few). Do you have really bad acne? Have you asked your doctor about it? I don't think "flushing" your stomach with laxatives is the answer, and it is unhealthy to use it for anything other than it what it is intended for.

As for increasing your metabolism, I think the best way is to eat healthy (4-6 small meals a day) and exercise. Your exercise should include aerobic and weight training activity. Weight training is supposed to be really good for increasing your metabolism. Aim for being healthy, not a certain weight.

Having said all this, where you have a heart murmur, you should discuss this with your doctor first. He/she should be able to help you get on the right track with the least possible risk.

Good luck. :bouncing:

Why just not exercise A LOT and eat food that gives you a lot of energy with minimal calories...that is what I plan to do (under the advice of anyone but my own determination to not be unhealthy)? Can/May anyone give me some suggestions (recipes) that fit the description above or any advice? I am like 260, or around there, lbs and have a heart murmur. I think I will walk around a 1 miles long lake for a couple of hours (4 hours with *4 10 minute breaks?, is that good??) and in the afternoon I can eat a bit (don't know any good 6-7 meals per day recipes, if anyone CAN PLEASE HELP ME, I would be MOST APPRECIATIVE) then do some jumping jacks and anything that can make me lose a gut and lose the fat that get in the way under your arms.

I REALLY NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS, PLEASE HELP...

I need lots of examples in anything you suggest (for example, CanuckLady said to try weight training and all that, give me examples of what I need to buy and how to do a particular exercise), I am a SEDENTARY person that is tired of being fat and weak so I am using that for motivation...

My life is kinda a wreck right now and I am just out of high school (can't get into the college I want because I might have lower grade than they demand and I haven't taken my SAT because of fighting depression BY MYSELF without any counseling, so you could say that depression has ruined me and I have only myself to blame). I have to do something to fight off the depression that is crushing me right now and a psychologist (which is ironic, that is what I want to be...) or psychiatrist is not the answer...

Ok ...

You really do need to talk to your general physician before you begin an exercise program due to your condition. I, personally, do not know anything about heart murmurs. Maybe some other posters do, but none of us are doctors and cannot give you medically sound advice. Keep that in mind.

You need to start out slow. If you try to change too many things at one time, you're likely to get burnt out and give up.

Depression can often be dealt with, with a healthy diet and exercise. Avoid foods that are high in sugar and low in nutrition like regular soda, candy, cookies, etc. You might also want to avoid white bread, rice and cereals made from refined flour. Instead, eat brown rice, bran or whole wheat cereals and whole wheat bread (read labels! you're looking for bread with whole wheat, not whole wheat flour, as the first ingredient and aim for 3g. of fiber per slice). Foods high in sugar content will cause blood sugar spikes and may affect your mood.

Walking is great exercise and a wonderful place to start. By adding 45 minutes of walking, 4 days a week to your routine, you could lose almost 20lbs in a year. And thats the only change you would have to make! Imagine if you changed your diet just a little!

As far as weight training goes, in the beginning, I would recommend picking up some 3lb, 5lb and 10lb dumbbells and one of Miriam Nelson's books (Strong Women Stay Young, or another of that series). To do her workout, I think you also need ankle weights. Is this a possibility for you?

You mention that you are just out of high school. Does that mean that you are still living at home? Can you ask your parents for help? Noone should have to deal with depression alone and there is nothing wrong with asking for help.

Good luck!

I just really need RECIPES or examples of foods that give you a lot of energy and minimal calories. I heard fruit is good but what kind and how much (but not in lbs, kgs or any measurement that a mother or kitchen expert would know, something I could know like half an apple or 1/4 grapefruit...). Anyone?...

You should eat 2-3 servings of fruit each day. A serving of fruit is 1/2c. of cut up fruit or 1 medium piece. The only "piece" of fruit that is more than one serving is banana. Each banana counts for two.

You should eat 2-3 servings of vegetables each day. A serving of cooked vegetables is 1/2c., a serving of raw is a whole cup, and a serving of leafy vegetables is closer to 2-3 cups.

You should eat 6-11 servings of whole grains a day. A serving of grains is 1 slice of bread, half a bagel, 1c. rice, 1/2c. cereal. The more fiber, the better. Try to eat whole wheat bread, brown rice.

You should eat 2-3 servings of dairy a day. A serving of dairy is 1 cup of milk, 3oz of cheese (about the size of your thumb), cup of yogurt.

You should eat 1-2 servings of protein a day. A serving of meat (beef, pork, chicken) is 4 oz or about the size of your palm (or a deck of cards). Other protein sources are eggs, beans and nuts. I think a serving of nuts is 1/4c. I'm not sure on beans.

These servings are based on the food pyramid and not everyone will agree. I hope this helps you though.

Hi,

Chelle1977 has given you some excellent advice on nutrition, and I agree that walking is a great exercise, especially for someone who has been sedentary.

I would also suggest exercise bands. Most come with instructions on performing various exercises and you can adjust the tension according to your fitness level.
