Alrighty, I'm currently quite obese, but have been losing weight for a while now. Since I'm losing a lot of weight I currently have some problems with chafing. :(
The problem is the area at the top of my leg in the crease where my tummy overhangs. It's kind of like loose skin hanging over now and I have horrible, painful chafing. I've tried a million things to no avail, and it's so painful that I can't workout right now! :eek:
Can anyone suggest a treatment or cure? Since I'm still big, any kind of walking is causing it to stay very irritated.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

I know what you mean about chafing, especially in that area. Its painful and embarrasing even if no one but me sees it or even knows about it. The best cure I have found is deoderant. I put it on anytime I will be exercising or walking a lot. It doesn't cure chafing once it has occured, but it prevents it. Hope this helps you. Good luck with the weight loss!

The folds are a pain to deal with. You need to make sure that when you shower/bathe, that you spend extra time washing under the folds, and the when you dry off, you pay extra attention to those areas. Baby powder is a good idea to help keep them dry.
After you've lost all the weight you need to lose, then you could get rid of the folds via plastic surgery, since your skin may not shrink back to it's original proportions.

:) I know exactly what you mean, I use sudocreme it may be a bit sticky once you've applyed it but it takes all the sting and redness out of the chafe, I swear by this especially at the top in between my thighs, it dries out the skin and leaves it sore free. Good Luck, let me know how you get on.
Evans Clothes store also do a pair of shorts made out of a material a bit like tights, this works to as it acts a bit like a panty girdle and stops the skin from jiggling about. I know this as Im about 9 stone overweight, if you have any diet tips please pass them on, thanks Jo x

Baby powder is a good way to keep the chafing from occuring. However, if you already have it, a lot of products will sting when you put it on. I have found a cream, called Snow Balm. It's for adult rashes and even diaper rashes. It's a bit messy but it takes the sting out of the chafe and dries out the skin. The best thing I could have ever bought!

Hi again that snow balm sounds very much like the sudocreme that I was talking about, Im in the UK so things on the market are probably different to the US, but sudocreme is also for babies and nappy rash. Its so soothing once the sting has gone and the rash looses its reddness.

Yeast loves warmth and moisture. You may have yeast thriving in the creases. I use Nystatin (prescription) and Crisco in the creases. Yes, that is right, Crisco. Crisco vegetable shortening (from the kitchen) does not block prespiration, allows it to flow thru, but creates a nice slip and slide effect for skin folds.
Sometimes I use an antibiotic cream along with the Nystatin. At times bacteria will set up houskeeping along with yeast.
Baby powder mixed with prespiration created grainy beads that were irritating in the creases as skin moved to and fro.
Keep a hairdryer handy and dry creases ever chance you get during the day.

What is growing in the folds of the skin is called "yeast". It can spread, turn red, and be awfully painful. I get it under my breasts.
A lot of women get it there and under "belly folds" and some will get it in the vag areas closest to the inner thigh, and yes men will get it too.
If you take your finger and rub it under there, you will detect "odor" that you don't like to smell. Call your Dr. or see him before this stuff eats your skin away raw. Who wants to exercise with this going on?
It only needs to be applied twice daily in a thin layer and what a relief it is when it starts working.
I got the generic brand and it's called Clotrimazole/Betameth DIP C.
Just call your DR. and tell him/her that you have a yeast infection going on in between the folds of your skin. It's not a big deal and maybe your doc will prescribe it over the phone w/o you visiting him/her.

MONISTAT SOOTHING CARE!!!!!!!!!!
You can find it in Wal-Mart, drugstores in the womens care area, can even go to the Monistat homepage and request a free sample. :bouncing: I had tried everything under the sun for my chafing, even Rx from my doctor and nothing really helped me, then I saw a tv ad for this stuff and figured, what the heck, can't hurt.
It felt great, not instant cure, but it eased the pain and now i don't have any red areas. They have it in a lotion and powder. I use the dry gel.
Here's what the page says about the stuff:
Non-greasy Powder-Gel™ skin protectant formula with Dimethicone. Dries to form a silky, breathable barrier to fight friction;
Prevents chafing and irritation caused by moisture, heat, and movement. Ideal for treating everyday intimate discomforts of athletes, plus-size women, new moms, and bikini area waxers or shavers;
Fast-acting formula comforts chafed skin. Works with just one application;
Fragrance-free and non-staining. Discreet relief without damage to your undergarments;
Non-irritating formula with Vitamin E and soothing Aloe. Gentle enough for daily use on even your most delicate areas.

I do hope this helps, I know how you feel!

I get the chafing on the inner thigh near VG sometimes. I use bag balm on it and it is fine by the next day and gives relief almost immediatly. Even when I was thin I dealt with it due to having large thighs even when I'm it a good weight.

I have this problem and the most important thing is to keep the area as dry as possible. When you're red and irritated one of the best things to clear it up fast is Nystatin cream. My OB recommended this during flare ups and it works wonders.
My daily ritual is a bath & cleaning the area well. When drying off I use a hair dryer to make sure I'm good and dry. Then I pat down with pure cornstarch. Baby power always irritated my skin b/c of the perfumes. Pure cornstarch works wonderfully for me and keeps me dry until the next bath.

I too use baby powder and its a good idea to carry a travel size in your bag. When its sore and weeping baby products for diaper rash are good as suggested. Creams/vaseline that give you a barrier are best as a prevention.

The very best thing is zinc oxide. It's probably the base of what is in many name-brand creams. Even if the chafing is extremely sore, the zinc oxide (it's white) helps dries out the skin and is actually the main ingredient in a lot of (no, I'm not kidding) diaper rash ointments and creams.

I don't know if it's in your area, but I use a product called Bodyglide. There is a number on the back: 1-888-263-9454.
I've used it on my inner thighs during running/walking when I was heavier than I am now. It worked great!
