How come we never hear about this on tv or movies or whatever? It seems like everyone's just having sex with everyone in the media and there's never any mention of anyone catching this warts virus or any other?

i understand exactly what you mean! during "sex-ed" HPV was the least of all the stds they would discuss about.

To me it's just as serious as catching something like HIV. Because some strains can lead to cervical cancer and we all know that there is no cure for cancer.
I think you might be overstating things a bit. In fact, many cases of cervical cancer CAN be cured. I really don't think you can compare HPV and HIV. HPV is much less serious and much more common. Up to 80% of people will come into contact with genital HPV at some point, while less than 2% of the population (here in the US) has HIV.

Far less than 1% of the people infected with HPV will ever get cervical cancer, and of those, very few will actually die from it, as cervical cancer is highly curable. In contrast, HIV is the 9th leading cause of death (again here in the US).

Again, I really don't think it is fair to compare the two. I have HPV, and I am sure that any AIDS patient would give anything to be able to trade with me.

Good luck.

I totally agree analog. I cannot comprehend how someone would put having HPV on a par with having HIV.

HPV is really not that big of a deal. It is more of an emotional virus than anything. You just have to get educated about it...know the facts..get treated and move on. The virus does clear itself within a reasonable short time. The medical community treats like it is not a big deal because it really isnt. The stigma is what gets everyone when they first get it. Once you clear yourself and move on with life it will be forgotten. Always be careful and protect yourself and others. PEACE
