Hi, I am a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. I started on metformin on Aug. 19. I got my period a week later. Normally it last 5-7 days, with days 2 and 3 being pretty heavy. This time it lasted 3 days and was very light. Could this be due to the meds? Just curious, I wouldn't mind a shorter and lighter period!!! ;)

PS. I have been having bouts of diarrhea. I read this is a side effect of metformin. Will it go away after my body adjusts or is it an ongoing thing? Thanks!

Mertformin does not affect the menstrial cycle. It is not a hominal drug like birth control. Best thing is wait for the next cycle, if it happens again, then take a trip to the gyno for a check. There are many reason for slowdown. You did not hint your possible age range, so it hard to tell if it might early menapause. Call the gyno when it happens again. I wish that I knew more th help. I have to be on depo due to warafin, thins my blood to slow down clots. Had valve replacement 4 years ago and depo for 3 years. Good luck and hope everything is normal.
