You don't need to follow a certain "diet plan" in order to lose weight. And you CAN eat fried foods and still lose weight. Amazing, but true ;-D

Here are some suggestions:

1. Always eat breakfast! Breakfast is a VERY important meal. If you do not want to eat traditional breakfast foods, thats fine. Eat a sandwich or a bowl of soup. If you are not used to eating and the thought turns your stomach, try one of the breakfast shakes (Carnation, SlimFast, Ensure) until you get used to having something in the morning.

2. Get your salad/vegetables at lunch. At 15, I'm guessing you're a freshman in HS and should have more variety available to you in the lunchroom? Order a salad, or another vegetable at lunch. If its not too uncool, eat a tray lunch. Tray lunches are supposed to be balanced meals (Note: they may not always be, but that is the idea).

3. Eat a snack after school, before dinner. An apple with PB, a banana with PB, carrots and celery with Ranch. This will give you some more fiber and will make you less hungry at dinner.

4. Learn about serving sizes. Eat 1 serving of what your parents make for dinner instead of 2 or 3.

5. Don't cut your calories too low. At 165 lbs. you should be eating at LEAST 1600 calories a day. If you eat too little, you will slow your metabolism down and may effect your development. You may have reached your adult height, but there are still changes occuring in your body.

6. Drink lots of water - aim for at LEAST 64 oz of water every day. Water helps your kidneys function properly which allows your liver to process fat.

You only need to cut your calories by 500 calories a day to lose 1lb. a week. 1 soda equals approx. 200 calories and a candy bar is another 250!

I think the advice given was great, but what I fail to see in any post regarding weightloss is the promotion of exercise. Dieting is just HALF of the solution. Exercise is KEY to losing ANY weight. I am 5'4" and I weighed 167lbs. My boyfriend got me into working first. This allowed my body to STOP putting on weight and start losing bodyfat. He then taught me how to eat more healthy and with common sense and with exercise I lost over 50lbs and feel great.

Losing weight it not something you decide to do and then that is it. You have to make a lifestyle change. Losing weight doesn't mean you will keep it off, you have to keep at it.
