After the first 6 months on Forteo, my bone density was the same. However, after an additional 6 months my spine went from -3.1 to -2.9. This is the first time that I have had an increase in bone density in the last 5 years. I stayed stable on Fosomax but no increase. My doctor also told me about someone who had been on Forteo for 18 months with a decline in bone density. After she went off Fortel and on to Actonel, she had a very significant increase in density. I guess there is still alot for them to learn. She is attending a conference in late September and asked me to call her. She will find out more about the 3 months on and 3 months off Forteo. I will post when I talk to her in early October. There is hope!!!!!

Jone,
Did your insurance company require you to get a reauthorization for another year of Forteo?

CONGRATULATIONS, Jone!!!! What great and encouraging news! Did you have to pay for the 6 months after starting Forteo scan yourself or did your insurance pay for it? Your news is so very encouraging for the rest of us! I'll be watching for your post in October regarding the news from that seminar!!!! I wish October weren't so far away!

MY insurance company covered the Bone Density Scans and my Doctor just wrote a new prescription for the Forteo and it was refilled.

Here is a link to a thread I started a while back about the 3 months on/3 months off Forteo administration study at Helen Hayes Hospital, if you're interested.
