Hi I am about to start on Lamictal as I have been told that the side effects would be less than Dilantin & as Dilantin does not control my seizures - I am hoping that Lamictal will .
I know that their is a lot of information about Lamictal out their but very little that comes from peoples own experiences & so if anyone has any please let me know .
Thanks Bahamas :) ( I live in Canada now )

Lamictal does tend to have fewer side effects than Dilantin and other meds. One thing about it is that it takes WEEKS to get up to dose. It is one htat HAS to titrate up very slowly so that is frustrating.
My friend on it found that it affected how some things tasted for awhile and that drove her nuts but it did not last. Acne is another side effect.....For some people on higher doses, insomnia might be an issue...
I sure hope it helps you....if you do a search you cna find some good info around the net...

Thanks for the info - kayakmom .
I found it quite usefull , when I get time I will take your suggestion & do some searching on the net.
The main thing I would like to find is a chart/schedule of some kind .
All the best Craig :)

I just got off of lamictal because i was on that and tegretol and still had a grand mal seizure. my doctor put me on depakote along with both. I had to go off of lamictal because of the side effects i was having on all three.
Lamictal was good for me. No side effects - I never had a problem with side effects on just tegretol and lamictal.

I tried tegretol & lamictal with no sucess .
I am hoping that lamictal alone will be a lot better than dilantin hsa been in controling my seizures .

I've been on tregetol and lamictal together for 6 years now. Lamictal has given me no problems. I still will have the occasional partial seizures ( 1 every 4 months or so) but it has worked wonderfully for me. Ive always been on tegretol for my grand mal but I'm trying to get off of that soon and just be on lamictal. Good luck with it, I love it. (well as much as you can love a medication for preventing seizures!)
