View Full Version : Axert? or other migraine meds

Anyone try this drug? Any side effects? My Doc gave me a sample to use in helps to see if what I am suffering from is indeed migraines. Thing is I read the possible side effects and the heart problems and chest tightening freaked me out. I dont think I want to take it. Anyone have those effects?

Are there any migraine meds that do not carry those heart/chest risks?

I have SVT and have PVCs (skipped beats, palpitations) all of the time. So I already have anxiety about my heart. I couldnt handle another thing to make me worry about it.

I always thought I was having sinus headaches as they were often affected by the weather and barometric changes. But my Dr believes that they are actually migraines. Because of the SVT I cannot take a decongestnt to see if it is a sinus issue. See the bind I am in ?? LOL.

Any advice?

Cheers, I believe I took Axert once ( i have taken so many its hard to remember).; I had a sample and didn't get a prescrip for one reason or another. it either didn't work for me or my insurance didn't cover it, but I do not recall having any bad side effects from it. The only side effects I have had form taking migraine meds are a feeling of tightness/aching in my throat that usually goes away within 30 minutes.

Forgot to mention I like Maxalt, but my insurance no longer covers it. I have Imitrex now and I don't know if it works or not...sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. This leads me to believe I have a bout 40 million different kinds of headaches and I never know what kind I am having :)

Axert is one of the triptan drugs, and I have taken almost all of them. Each one of them actually gave me a worse headache for a few hours and caused rapid heartbeat and tightness in the chest. I have refused to take them because they really scare me with the way they make me feel. I rather have the headache than take these drugs. The triptans work well for some people, so I was willing to try them. You may want to try them at least once and see how you react. Maybe if they do not work for you, your doctor should put you on a preventive. That is what I am taking.
