I have bad acid reflux. Most times my pain is on the left side of my chest near my heart. But sometimes I get these sharp shooting pains that feels like it goes right throught my heart. I am 21 and have had just about all the heart and anuerysum test you can have. But does anybody else get these shooting pains near or around their hear from GERD?

next time you get that pain , try bending over, and then email me if it gets worst , I'm curiuos if Im the only one

Hi I also have these chest pains been to the ER countless times and also has stress tests done of my heart and nothing found, some days my chest feels so sore because of all the pain I had all night its horrible and scary for instance lats night I had a bad night with the chest pains and now i woke up all sore in my chest, its the gas that creeps up there and puts pressure on the chest area I guess, but man it could be scary especially for me since I am alone with my 2 small kids, never knwing whther its really my heart or its just gas, aghh, anyway I have tried many meds liek zantac, protonix, prilosec, zelnorm and nothing helps, only one pill I bought named oxy-powder it works magic on gas and belly pain, and its sold online only I have sever gastritis and gerd and it works on me only 2 pills a day but the thing is they are bigger pills and I have trouble swallowing them, its funny that thsi is the only thing that helps, 2 pills a day and i dont feel any kind of pain, I will try to maybe sprinkle teh meds in water but it tastes a bit nasty, anyway that is made of oxygen, you gusy shoudl try it its all natura and beats any of the meds i have tried, I just have to find a way to drink it daily, its used as a colon cleanser so you can take 10 pills and it cleanses your colon and stomach out, but only take 2 or 3 daily for the stomach issues and it helps a bunch

yep, have the same pain. have it in chest and right below rib cage and in back sometimes. Really getting old fast. I'm thinking about asking Dr. to do the nissan surgery because I have changed diet, how I eat, lost weight and take protonix 2x/day, pepcid complete 2x/day and still have the pain a lot. Would rather have the surgery now since I'm only 34 than get too much damage or too old to have it later. This makes life miserable sometimes. Just want my life back.

I met with my primary care Dr. today. He said my medication should be helping by now, so ordered some tests on gall bladder and pancrease as these can fuel this problem. Waiting on those results plus have to have an ultrasound done. was referring to the nissan fundulopicattion (I'm sure that's not spelled anywhere close) surgery. Dr. said if Gall bladder and pancrease ok, and still not any better, should probably consider this surgery. I have been doing re-search and from what I can tell, have to make sure and get a surgeon who has done this a lot as you can have some serious problems from this. But most people have had a lot of success with it. I know someone who had a complete done 4yrs ago and very little complications and no Gerd! Will have to talk to primary care and GI Dr. about this once I know more.

I get these all the time..have it really bad right now actually I've had like a million heart tests done. I actually have it right now..on the left side, with backpain, stomachpain, nausea,..the usual. hopefully you feel better soon...GERD is known to imitate angina and other heart or lung problems. So make sure you're in contact with your doctor often...take care

Thanks for all the replys. I havnet been on here in awhile. I do still have some acid sometimes. I am taking Lexapro for my aniexty and it seems to be helping my indigestion to. Probably 75% of it is in my head. Your mind controls your body and my mind controlled my body for along time. I always thought something was wrong with my heart. I am thinking it right know, thats why I am back on these boards. I hope all of your problems go away. later

Have you been to a Cardiologist.

A EKG, Echocardiogram and a thallium stress test as well as a Halter Monitor.

if you can pass all of these with no problems. You probrolly have nothing to worry about.

Thogh even me I still always think its my heart.

I am only 21 and I have had 2 EKGs, Echocardiogram, ASI test, Anueursum Ultrasound test, and ABI test done. Everything was normal. But with this indigestion I still think something is wrong with my heart. Thats why I am on Lexarpo for my aniexty. Which is working great for me. I suggest if you suffer from aniexty to try Lexapro.

ASI stands for Arterial Stiffness Index, ASI correlates with arteriosclerosis. So the higher the ASI the more likely you might have harden of the arteries.
Abdominal Aortic Aneursym Ultrasound is the ultrasound of the main artery leaving the heart and supplying blood to the abdomen. It checks for aneursym and any abnormal swelling or dilation of a blood vessel. ABI stands for Ankle-Brachial Index its used to measure blood flow in the lower extermities to detct PAD (peripheral arterial disease). People with a high Brachial index are 3 to 5 times at a greater risk of having a heart attack.

Hey all, I have the same issues...in fact I just wrote about it in the Heart disorder section. I had a bravo endoscopy done a few months ago, and he determined that I have GERD, and put me on Protonix. I take it pretty much daily, as he prescribed but I still have days where I get terrible chest pain (like today!) I didn't think I had to avoid certain foods because I thought the medicine would help but I guess that's not the case. I'm mostly worried that it's my heart though, because the pain seems to come randomly and not just after I eat. Sometimes it's on a completely empty stomach too, which I find most troubling.

Here is my question...how long after a meal does it take for the GERD to hit you? Could it be days after? I thought after a day your body is done digesting food, but someone told me that's not the case, that a few days after you had let's say, onions, it could affect your heartburn/GERD, or whatever. Any thoughts on that? And how are we supposed to determine the difference between real heart troubles and GERD?

I get indigestion when I dont eat anything. The acid in your body is enough to give you pains. The only way you can rule out your heart would be to talk to the doctor and run some test. If you feel its neccisary. A couple of times I felt like I had indigestion right when I woke up in the morning. Hope this helps some.
