I have an appt with an ear, nose and throat specialist on Friday to address the swallowing problems I've been having. My primary MD wants to rule out any physical obstruction before saying for sure it's related to MS. I was told that they run the scope thru your nose and then down into the throat to visualize the area, I was wondering if anyone else has had this done and how much discomfort I should expect. I don't really like the idea of anything going in my nose, in fact, it's on my list of things I hoped I'd never have to go thru. the MD said it isn't painful, but of course they are going to say that. If anybody has an experience they could share with me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Seems like I've seen it on tv and looks like they spray something first to numb it. Not sure though, sorry. Good luck.

i had that done when I was starting my whole MS dx. I was having this weirdness on the left side of my throat - just felt like something was stuck there, then I was experiencing some facial numbness on that side along the jaw.. anyway. They stick this rubbery wormy thing up your nose - it hurts a little bit bc its sensative up there - I did tear up a little bit, but it was ok in the end. they do spray some stuff in there, but it wasn't that effective.

everything will go fine, just relax and take some deep breaths.

Oh my goodness. I need new glasses. I thought your thread title said GOING FOR A SCONE...then I read it again.

I had that procedure done..twice!..when i began the MS journey. It burned a little..not bad, just enough to make you tear up. And then it suddenly stops burning. You won't "like" the scope...but once it's in, it doesn't hurt at all...it just feels funny because it doesn't belong there.

When they inserted mine, they thickly coated the scope with a numbing gel. It helped. Let us know how it goes, okay?

Thanks for your replies everybody, I feel a little better. Don't I wish I was just going for a scone!!!
Baddoey--I feel the same way, like something is always stuck on the right side of my throat, back behind my tonsils, but I stopped taking my pills last week and theres no way a pill could stay there for that long, could it? I think I've got some numbness in there too, when I eat a popsicle, I only feel the coldness on the left side, not the right. So what did they do about the problems you had, did they just go away on their own, or is there something that helps? I cant eat certain foods and I'm having a hell of a time with my pills. I'm so tired of this, it's just one thing after another, it seems like. Anyway, thanks for listening to my whining, it's so nice to have a place to vent and ask questions.

after they put the scope down and didn't see anything they sent me for a Cat Scan - when that didn't show anything then sent me for an MRI, which showed lesions. the throat thing pretty much went away, every so often I get a little something, but not to the same level that was before. I don't have any problems swallowing, but sometimes hear a "click" in there, I don't know if that makes sense - but i don't know how else to explain it. the facial numbness on that side is gone, but has moved to my right cheek and eyelid. I hope everything goes ok with you. . take care.
