View Full Version : What kind of headache is this?

Hello,
I'm 19, I started quitting smoking two weeks ago after smoking for three years, and after drinking since then. Anyway, the next day I started getting this weird headache. I've never gotten headaches before, well last month I had a tension headache, which was unusually the same time I got it this month. But they're not the same headache.

The one I have now is lasting quite a bit longer, it's on the left side only (the other was on both sides). And it will make me generally dizzy , and make things hard to concentrate. I will also get these sharp shooting pains on the one side that scare the crap out of me and make me cringe with pain. The pain also feels like it's in my left ear, and there's also a dull pain at the base of my skull at the back on the left side. It generally is chronic, and has been for two weeks, my doctor thought it was another tension headache and gave me some muscle relaxers, and they only help me slightly. If someone could let me know if they have a similar headache or know what kind of headache this is, I would really appreciate it. Also, what triggers these types of headaches? The quitting smoking? hormonal reasons? (i am female) stress? what I'm eating? (i'm a vegetarian) or something more serious? any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I've been feeling crappy for too long and have to go back to college soon...
Anyway, take care all.
Peace and lots of love and good vibes. ~Folksoul

Let your doctor know that the meds are not working properly.
Hormones may play a part. Are you taking birth control pills?

Some foods may trigger migraines/headaches. Does not matter weither you eat healthy or not. Migraines or headaches do not descriminate. Some of the healthiest foods can cause migraines for some people.

Weather can trigger migraines/headaches.

Do a Goggle search for migraine triggers. You will be quite surprised what you will find.

Suggest that you attempt to keep a headache diary. Do a Google search on how to keep one. In the search field type headache diary or migraine diary. You may be able to print the diary out.
The diary will help you figure out what is triggering your migraines/headaches.

Good luck

No , I'm not taking birth control or anything like that. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow, and hopefully he'll have some answers for me.
So this is a migraine of some sort?
It hasnt stopped, like i'll wake up with it and go to sleep with it, and it's driving me nuts. It's bearable until the sharp pains start happening which are almost crippling.
Thanks for the advise, I'll try to keep a journal and see what's going on. Take care.
