Hi Lainey,
Not sure on the magnesium, but the ones I take would make the total for the day between 1000 & 1200 mg a day. I just switched to Slo-mag as the magnesium oxide in my calcium tabs upset my lower intestinal tract.
And on the dry eye...my eye doctor just last week told me that flaxseed oil is good for it. The vitamin e...there have been reports recently on vitamin e suppliments and causing heart problems in high doses. So I've cut mine to just taking 400 iu about 3x a week. Researching the flaxseed oil, I found it works better in combination with the fish oil for dry eye. So I'm giving that a go. Only been less than a week, but the eyes really haven't been as gritty feeling. So I hope it's helping.

I'll say a supplemental 250mg. or 500 mg. is the right range. Too much magnesium becomes a laxative dose and is VERY wasteful.

Magnesium should be balanced with your calcium, 1/2 as much as calcium. It is really better to take a good multi vitamin and then add to it the minerals you want to take more of. If you take too much magnesium it will just work as a laxative. I take 800 mg mag. along with a very good multi vitamin(all 8 capsules) + some extra B's. Multi has 1000 mg calcium + I take 500 mg more calcium.
Magnesium and calcium will help bring bp down.......good for heart paps and also regulates beats if you heart races. I have read that if a person has heart attack, if they immediately start him on IV loaded with magnesium, there is a much better chance of recovery. So that sounds to me like it would be good to already be taking it before heart attack.
