I don't know what to do? I have 6 1/2 smokes left in my pack and don't want to buy anymore. Have huge stresses right now, especially financial, but don't want to use that as yet another excuse. Figured if I can get over this bump in my life the rest will be smooth sailing. My worst time is the second I get up ....grab smokes .... make coffee....
Don't think a walk in the am will cut it as I also have a habit of getting up at 3 am. :)

i am a smoker also that wants/has to quit. i have same habit, get up, grab cig, make coffee. i have several health reasons for needing to quit also. i have been a heavy smoker for 40 yrs. tried to quit several times, longest being 2 mos. twice. am going home to florida tomorrow after being in n.h. for the summer. really need to get will power and just stop! maybe we can monitor each others progress and help each other? husband smokes too and that will be another hurdle to avoid.
hang in there, try to be strong, and i know we need to stop thinking of them as our best friends. our stress will always be there whether we grab a cig or not!!!..................bev

I'm with ya Bev! Currently sharing my home with my ex(also big time smoker).
I seem to have all sorts of reasons to light up yet again! Maybe if we make the goal easier or for a shorter time, say make it till noon. Then once it's noon ..."well I made it this far....how about 3pm?"
Quit for 2 years, this time want to make it permanent ..... did the patch, the gum.....getting older now ....in the heart range.....time to STOP! :)

I quit cold turkey quite suddenly 16 days ago and just tried to get myself through each hour. I told myself I could always just start up again if I wanted but I really wanted to know what it was like to go beyond 2 days, I really wanted to know what it was going to be like not smoking.
I have feet!!!! They're warm already where they'd always been so cold I couldn't feel them.
You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, try it!!! I'll be here most nights for moral support.
Go on you know you want to, it's great to be free honest it is. :D

Thanks Fluffytoes! Just thinking about quitting stresses me out, guess it's like going on a diet...all of a sudden you start thinking about foods you haven't thought about in years....mmmm...cheesecake. Great intentions the night before but once it's morning ...coffee...cigarette. Maybe not the best time to quit as I got huge, I mean huge bills coming....bought my first home by myself(single mom, now), reconsultation for doctor(100s!), not to mention first time let my plastics get out of control. And my job, yikes!.....deal with 100s of people per day....high stress. To top it off ....broke up with my babes .................
enough excuses right? Sept 15th is closing and I wanta make my new home smoke free. Whered ya go Bev???
16 days is a long time! Keep up the good work Fluffytoes! :)

Well I guess I am in the same boat, I ordered the patches and they have been sitting on the counter for a week now. Shame on me, My husband fusses every day about my smoking, even thu he smokes, but not as much as I do. THE plan truth is I guess I love too smoke the things, is that insane, Why would I like to suck smoke down my lungs. This is just crazy. I keep telling myself when my stress level is down, But That may never be. I know if other people can do it I can....... Felicia

Listen don't pressure yourselves into quitting I take all I said earlier back, there is enough pressure on smokers as it is, don't pick a quit day either I can't think of a more stressful way to quit smoking jeez I'd have smoked myself quite literally to death trying to get one last one in before my quit day.
What I would do, in fact what I did do was talk to myself for a long while before I actually did it. One afternoon I just smoked my last. I didn't prepare for it or think about it, I just did it. Yeah it was hard at first and I still have my moments but this week has been a lot easier, I hardly even thought about them today much less craved one.
Patches/gum/pill/nothing whatever works for you when you're ready, the difference between now and before is that you're thinking about it. Good enough step for now if you don't feel strong enough yet, god knows it's hard enough without added pressure and stress. :)

No pressure Fluffytoes! Think it's most likely the people in your life ie loved ones who put on the pressure. You want to do it for them(and yourself of course) but at the same time they're the problem or at the very least part of the problem. I used to be like Felicia(very recently in fact), where I often said "but I enjoy smoking", past that point now and very serious about quitting. Unfortunately easier said then done, since first post, bought 3 packs(trying not to buy carton as always on the verge of quitting), also fished out a half pack from under the car seat. Closing in on the "pathetic stage" - looking at butts on ground with great interest. :)

Don't give up Hopalong too! Your body's just responding to years of neglect. I would suggest you start building it up again...besides your daily multi vitamin add on things like Omega Essentials with 3*6*9 omegas or if you prefer fish oils(great for calming). Also hear SAMe is will make you happier and excellent mind booster, I use DMG but there is an initial reaction for some(hyperactivity)which only means more B vitamins are needed(esp B12 and folic acid). :)
