Hello,
I drink 1-2 glasses of Cranberry Juice daily(Ocean Spray). The Cranberry Juice at my local Hlth food store is what I deem high $9.49 for 6 servings,$6 something for 32 ounces and then of course they carry the Capsules.I find those steep prices for the size.I can buy a 64 ounce bottle of Ocean Spray for $2.50.How can I get it when I can't afford such prices?Am concerned to continue drinking the juice from the store with all the sugar it would be defeating it's purpose.

lotus blossom,

What I do is buy the pure, undiluted, unsugared, undrinkable cranberry juice at the healthfood store and dilute it with a LOT of water. That way I don't need to add sugar, and I also wind up drinking lots of water that way. I put about 1/4 cup into a plastic pour bottle and add about 4 cups of water. Then I drink it during the day. It's great for clearing up the beginnings of a bladder infection.

Is the Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice really pure juice with just sugar added? Or have they diluted it in any way? If it's diluted, then you'll be getting the same amount of "active" ingredient by buying the pure stuff and adding lots of your own water. It may not be so expensive in the long run.

Hi Rheanna,
That wouldn't be bad to dilute it so I guess the price wouldn't be so bad afterall. The Ocean Spray says it is 27% juice plus it contains 100% Vitamin C..But it also has 33 G's Sugar..and High Fructose Corn Syrup..on the empty bottle I have on front it says National Kidney Foundation and Ocean Spray partners in promoting Urinary Tract health..all that Sugar is defeating it's purpose..

lotus blossom,

I'm trying to do a little rough math here, which certainly isn't my strong suit! :p

If the Ocean Spray is 1/4 pure juice (rounding 27% to 25% for simplicity sake), then you're getting 16 ounces of pure juice for the $2.50 bottle of 64 ounce cocktail (64 ounces divided by 4 equals 16 ounces). This means 16 ounces of juice for $2.50 is about 15 or 16 cents per ounce ($2.50 divided by 16 ounces).

If the cost of the healthfood pure juice is anywhere in the ballpark of 15 to 16 cents per ounce (I personally would think that even 20 cents per ounce would be ok for me), then you're better off diluting it yourself. At any rate, even if the cost per ounce is even higher, you'll need to weigh the cost to your health of consuming so much sugar.

I always go for the containers that say "100% juice" (even if some of the juice isn't cranberry), to avoid the added high fructose corn syrup or other added sugars. It does cost a little more, but not as much as the health-store stuff, and I can't tell a difference in taste. I dilute it further with water anyway, to lower the natural sugar content even more. Cranberry juice can take a pretty fair amount of diluting and still taste like something.
