Has anyone heard of this before? I was just told about it by my son's new OT. They put a headset over their ears to a very low volume of different sounds, tones....this effects different parts of the nervous system and has helped child speech and other areas. I just found a site about it but I know I can't list that here. Has anyone tried this? How did it work for your child?
Thanks
Michelle

Hi Michele

We do something called Therapeutic Listening. It involves expensive specialized headphones and our son listens to sounds twice a day for thirty minutes. We have seen good results. It supposedly is retraining the various muscles in the inner ear. We cuurently use the Ease 3 CD. This helps with self stimming, concentration. I can not remember the first Cd that we used but it was the basic training CD. We eventually moved up to Sanomas which you listen to twice a day starting at one minute and increase by one minute every three days. However, he was not ready for it, so, our OT put him on the Ease 3 CD and it has worked fine. He will eventually begin listening to Sanomas within the next week or so. There are different levels of listening and Sanomas is the more intense listening.

My husband heard about a program called Vocal Profiling. They take a sample of the patient's voice, analyze it, and create a tape for the patient to listen to that will bring the body back into balance. They have been having a lot of success with autistic kids. We have sent in an application for our grandson, but have not heard back from them yet. I don't know if this is what you were looking for...

I have heard of the Tomitis method for AIT. They put headphones on the kid 2x a day for 30 minutes for 14 days straight. I talked to an audiologist about it and she said she's heard really good things and that we should try it. The insurance won't pay for it, though. It's still considered experimental.

Our DAN dr also does light and movement therapy at the same time. E won't tolerate anything on her head, so I'm hesitant on signing up.

There are websites on it - type in automated integration training.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try it out. Lucky for us, the schools pays for it during the early intervention program. I don't have to ask insurance for help in PA.
Thanks
Michelle

Our OT therapist also recommended this for our 3-year-old autistic son. I was going to ask for those who have tried it, how cooperative were your kids? I don't see my son tolerating having a headset on his head. He refuses to have a hat on!
