I came home today and my wife had the results of a ghonorrea and Chlamydia test. She had told me that she went in for an exam and that she had some pain down there and that the doctor just did that test along with a pregnancy test. She told me that this was just a normal part of the cervix exam?

I need to know if this is a possibility. Or if these tests are given due to symptoms or concerns about contracting one of these STDs

Now she did think that she was pregnant that I will give her she was late by 2 weeks and was spot bleeding, but that was negative. What would a doctor be looking for to do a culture and the lab results sent in the mail to only have those 2 tests on there.

I am concerned and upset as anyone else might be. There is a doctor/patient confidentality so I can not ask the doctor as to the basis for the test. I just thought I would ask here and see if there could be some kind of truth to the what she might be saying.

Thank you,

Ghonorrhea and chlamydia would only be tested for if it was suspected.

Both are STD's and would be passed on by an infected sexual partner.

These are not 'standard' tests for a routine exam, and the only reason a doctor would test for any std is if the patient requested it, or the doctor suspected it from either symptoms he saw himself or the patient brought to his attention.
In your wife's defense, lower abdominal pain is a symptom of both gonorrhea and chlamydia, and irregular bleeding is also a symptom of gonorrhea. Since she did have both bleeding and lower pain, could be the doctor was just covering all bases as many do. And since chlamydia often shows no symptoms at all, a doctor will usually just go ahead and check for this if they're already checking for an std, which is why she was checked for both.
I assume the results were negative for both as you didn't say otherwise. I would think this wouldn't be somethig she would willingly volunteer to you if she had something to hide. If there was a reason for her to keep this from you, she would have. Because she shared it and explained it, that in itself tells me she is to be believed. She had symptoms that warranted being checked (and just for the record, if she is trying to conceive and has not, it's not unusual for a doctor to run these tests as both can interfere with fertility....they would run these tests simply to rule them out. Again, it's not uncommon for a doctor to do this).

I had abdominal pain before and when I went to the doctor they did the STD test too, even though I am married and don't cheat. She asked me if I could have an STD and I told her that I am faithful to my guy, and then she asked me if he was faithful. I told her that I would like to think so, but no one really knows for certain. Then she went ahead and did the STD test.

The tests came up negative too. So you see the doctor probably believed your wife, but who knows with you men out there. If your wife had cheated, she would have to be crazy to mention these tests to you.

Thank you for the replies, She was negative for both but just seeing that my wife had been tested for those STDs just floored me. I just could not fathom the tests were given as routine, but I guess that is why I do not have a phd as well.

Again I want to thank you for easing my mind.

Thank you,

And I want to add that I do trust my wife but that the whole thing just took me by surprise. In my mind 1 and 1 was not equaling 2... Thanks again

You are very welcome....and I'll tell you something else. You ever complain of pain while urinating, guess what your doctor is gonna check you for? Same thing.

Go hug your wife....she deserves it.

I just wanted to put my two sense in here.... I went to the doctor the other day to do my annual exam... I didnt complain of any pains... BUT like I always do before my doctor does anything... I ask what it is.... and.... why they are doing it... My doctor did a chlamydia and gonarreah test and said it WAS a routine check up seeing these diseases often can go undetectable by women... She also said they are routinely done for anyone under the age of 25... Not contradicting anyone but just letting you guys know what my doc said....
