Hi Vicky and Kayakmom

Thanks so much for thinking of us. We are fine. We were very fortunate, Katrina turned at the end, so Baton Rouge didn't get it as bad as expected. We were without power for only about 11 hours. My mother was without power for 3 days, other family members a week. We had very little damage, a some shingles off. We have a lot of people from the New Orleans area in town and we will find out next week exactly what the public schools are going to do with the new kids. Best guess is they will go to night school in our schools. I wish they would open up some of the closed schools and let them go there. Night school is hard on kids, I just can't imagine elementary kids going to school till 9 at night! The Catholic schools already have their new kids in school. Traffic is a nightmare here. The few problems we have are nothing compared to what those from New Orleans are going through! My heart goes out to those, I can't imagine going through the horrow they have. I just learned that the Childrens Hospital in New Orleans did ok. They had everyone out before it hit and not much if any damage.

An update on Bonnie-
I think she has not had a seizure for about 4 months! I say I think because she doesn't tell me when she has one and I think sometimes she doesn't know. She has been telling me the past week that she has been getting headaches when she stands and gets dizzy before she tumbles. I don't know if the"dizzy" is just nerves or something else. I don't know if the headaches are from May when she tripped over the diving board, seizures or just a headache. I hope these aren't symptoms of small seizures. I am going to make an appointment with her neuro next week. I finally got her some insurance!!! We got the free state insurance. It won't pay for me to see her neuro at her office, we would have to go to the charity hospital to see her. I will just pay for her office visit at her reg office, at least her meds will be paid for.
We have her trileptal down to 75mg twice a day. We were hoping to have her off by the end of summer and just on lamictal, but with her head injury we delayed decreasing it. Now I am scared to lower it any more during school.
Yesterday the cheerleaders dropped her. She was doing a back tuck in the air and they didn't catch her ( guess that's why that stunt is illegal). She landed on her tailbone! I told her she did not need to go up in the air anymore if she doesn't have girls that will catch her and she definately does not need to do that stunt anymore. She could have been seriously injured.
So far so good with school, we were just in school a couple of weeks when Katrina hit. They were out for a week and just went back Tuesday.
She wants to take drivers ed now and get her driving permit! Really scary!
I told her we have to run it past her neuro. In the past she said she could write a note saying her type seizures would not interfere with driving, we'll see.

I read in another post about Katie and your son. So glad to hear they are doing so well. He has such a great opportunity as guarterback! I miss my son playing football and baseball, cherish these days. I assume Katie is still seizure free, Praise the Lord! I think about her often when something comes up about Bonnie's seizures.

Wow, I kind of rattled on. Thanks again for thinking of us. I haven't been on much lately, but I do check in periodically. I think about the friends I have made on the board here and continue to pray for everyone.

Hi Debbie,

SO HAPPY to hear you are all OK!

I wasn't sure how much damage was done in Baton Rouge, since they focus so much on NO. I knew that you had gone to the Children's Hospital there and didn't you go to LSU too?

Happy to hear Bonnie is doing well! Other than her "drop". That is SCAREY!
She could have broken her neck, spine...YIKES! I hope their coach rethinks that one!

Katie remains seizure free and will test for her license on Sept. 22nd. Her school year will be tough. Calculus, Physics, and AP US History. I told her she thought her surgery was rough... ;) We are truly blessed...and thankful to God every day! GBTG!

Andrew has had 2 injuries already. Playing defense, he charged and blocked a field goal attempt but got kicked in the shin by the kicker! We thought he had a stress fracture, but it turned out ok. Couldn't walk for a couple of days. Funny thing was, he recovered the ball that he blocked and ran 5 yards before being tackled. Didn't notice the pain until he got up from the tackle and couldn't walk off the field. Missed the whole 4th qtr. Then last week he was sacked by 2 big lineman and hit his head on the ground. Missed the 4th qtr there too. Glad I wasn't at that game, I would have lost it. They checked him for a concusion, all ok. Had a headache for a day or so. That was one of his fears playing QB. But he's been a wide receiver since 5th grade...you get put in the same position of being blind sided...no difference.
I just told him he needs to pay attention more... ;) You know the answer... "RIGHT MOM"...

Enough of my rambling now...I wish you and your family all the best and hope that everyone is able to settle into some form of normalcy down there. We have about 300 evacuees here in Wisconsin, staying in Milwaukee.

Praying daily....

Peace and Strength to all who have suffered in one way or another...

Take care Debbie,
Vicki

So glad that you are doing ok! Sorry to hear about the dizzies and headaches, hoping hte nuero has some insight with those next week!

Yikes, Vickie, some guy Andrew is! Hope he is done with injuries now! Neat that Katie is testing for her license!! Sounds like she has a very challenging year ahead!

Sam is back on meds and doing ok. Fighting fatigue for the last month after he had a cold so we had a bunch of blood drawn yesterday to see if it is anything more going on.
Anna has switched to a public high school and is doing ok, so far we think. Migraines and headaches but no seizures! She is on the volleyball team and very busy!

HUGS to you both!

Hi Ginny,

Happy to hear Anna is doing well and hope it's nothing but "getting use to" Sam's new med.

I'm happy that you found some answers and that Sam is getting the help that has been needing all along.

Andrew is ok now...game tomorrow afternoon/night (4:30 pm). Suppose to be 90+ degrees at game time. YUCK. Sorry...not football weather to me! So hydration will be key for everyone. Our school is so small (170, 9-12) our guys (both varsity and jv) play offense and defense...they'll be wiped after the game! And will probably smell pretty ripe too! :D

GOOD LUCK to Anna with her volleyball season! GO SPIKE 'EM!

All my best,
Vicki

Vicky, I know Katie will be happy after the 22nd when she gets her license! Good luck with her tough schedule, after what she's been through it might just be a piece of cake for her!
I hope andrew's offensive line doesn't let anyone else get to him! He sounds like a tough player, I hope he doesn't get anymore injuries. Good luck with the game today. Now a days they have "hydration breaks" thank goodness. I do remember the "smell" yuk! My son, B.J. played both ways until high school. He loved being on defense. They put him as center when he was a freshman, because they didn't have anyone else who could do it, and thats where he stayed all four years of high school.

Ginny, I'm glad Sam and Anna are doing ok. Hopefully the blood work will give you some answers. I'm so glad Anna hasn't been having any seizures! They said Bonnie's headaches may just be coming from her fall in May. She could have them for 6 months. Good luck with volleyball!

Debbie
