I was sitting here at the computer. All of a sudden I had this adrenaline rush. Heart started to speed up. Internal jitters set in. went for about 10 to 15 min. Then my chest got warm. Internal jitters got less. Then my neck got warm and I sweat under my arms. Now I feel a bit washed out. Still some jitters. Yuk! Was this a hot flash?

Psalms, welcome to my world! Help yourself to a large cold glass of caffeine free green tea and a hand fan :D .

I am not sure if an adrenaline rush is another name for hot flash.

Ever since I stopped taking bcp I've been having multiple hot flashes all day long. It feels like I'm have several an hour. For the last couple of weeks I've not been able to sleep soundly because of the heat waves! One minute hot the next cold and my poor DH has better forget about cuddling :nono: .

My hot flashes usually start in my chest/back and then works its way up to my neck, head, face and arms. Sometimes I break out in a sweat other times it's just a "HEAT WAVE".

Hopefully do you get the internal jitters and racing heart or are you just hot? Right now I feel great. Calm as a cucumber. No jitters, no heat. A little wiped out but nothing major. Heart rate is calm. I started working on some costume auctions for ebay. It passed but boy it was scary and annoying. I dont have an appitite, which wont hurt me one bit. I wouldnt be able to stand having them all day. Why did you go off BC pills? I understand not wanting to be on them though. With being on BP meds, I dont know if it is an option for me. My Mom said she was on them when she was my age. thanks for replying hopefully

Could be a "mini panic attack," as I call them. They aren't a full blown one, but I get the adrenaline rush and feel hot. Its scary and annoying, I know. I've been getting them for about ten years, but just in the last couple of years I'm also getting the peri-menopause symptoms ON TOP of the panic attacks. Boy, is this fun! I am getting the night sweats now too. What you got COULD be a hot flash, but I think it was more likely anxiety.

Praise God that I do not have those internal jitters anymore. I went through a period of time, earlier on this peri. ride, where I had to deal with the jitters. I've had the racing heart a couple of times, but I think the last time that I dealt with them it came about from low potassium. The bp med. that I took was basically a diuretic and it affected my potassium and electrolytes. Since then I've been drinking orange juice or eating bananas.

I had to stop taking bcp because my bp became elevated. Since I've relocated to Florida the two doctors here said not to take anymore bcp, but the internal medicine doctor that I saw gave me a prescription. August 3 was the last time that I took a bcp and so far I don't have a period. The ob/gyn that I saw told me that I might not get a "real" period since I stopped taking bcp. Of course I'm hoping that I don't have one ever again and that my body will be on the right road to functioning with less hormones.

It's good to know that you are now feeling calmer. Hopefully, the Paxil is starting to work. :).

The ob/gyn that saw told me to contact him if I haven't had a period in three months so that he'll give me something to make it start. I almost laughed at him when he said this since I'm trying to not have anymore periods. I wonder why would or should I even see him inorder to get a pill to start my period.

It's good to know that you are now feeling calmer. Hopefully, the Paxil is starting to work. :).

Hopefully:

My best friend is 2 years older than me. When she stopped having her
periods her doc did a hormone test. He told her the same thing and
she didn't listen.

Well, she was generating enough hormones to build the lining in her
uterus. But she was not ovulating. Because she didn't take the
pills (I think progestin), she went about 5 months without a period.
Building the lining but no ovulation to trigger the lining to fall away.
So, when it got to a point it couldn't hold any more, she
started to bleed. And couldn't get it stopped. So after
about 3 months of trying everything she gave up and went for a
D&C.

My Mom had two during her menopause and I suspect it was the same
logic.

I'd ask the doctor why he/she wants you to do the pills. You can always
decide not to but I'd be curious as to why the doctor things you
maybe should do this.

I actually had a little mental lift today. That depressed feeling in my forehead. Maybe the paxil is kicking in. I did a google search on hot flashes and alot of the hits said that anxiety, heart racing, palpatations, etc are part of hot flashes. I have soy milk in the fridge but I havent opened it yet because my kitchen was covered in plastic for painting. So it has been in the fridge for awhile. I willhave to check it out.

I would dearly love to know also if that was a hot flash. Exactly what you described happens me as well and I would love to know if they are hot flashes. Did you feel fine beforehand and out of the blue it came? I also feel very washed out for a long time afterwards - it is so scary when it happens. I find sometimes when it happens that I feel I might pass out or something but that has never happened. It's always good when you hear it happens others tho (not wishing it on anybody tho!)
Hope there will be more replies.
