Hi-
I have been lurking for the last month trying to find answers concerning possible infection. Here is my story: On June 4, 2005, I was raped. The rapist was caught and found to be HIV+. In short, I had a nervous breakdown(diagnosed with PTSD). I'm talking hospitalization for two weeks. I have had every symptom known, including shingles. At any rate, all of my test( 3 ELISA'S ,1 Dna PCR, and 1 RNA PCR, which have come back negative out to week 7. Of course, you can deduct that I am at the 90 day mark. I visted the doctor Thursday and was given an HIV test. Now, I have to wait until Tuesday to get the results. I am horrified. I have had painless canker sores, blotches in my mouth and a red painless throat for the entire three months. Within the last two weeks, I have experienced swollen lymph nodes on both sides of my face. My doctor attributes this to stress and some of the meidcations that were prescribed. I stopped taking all the meds and am still exoeriencing the facial stiffness and the above mentioned symptoms.
I got a very encouraging answerr from Dr. BOB and an infectious disease specialist who visited me at the hospital. The specialist said, "I am 99% sure that you did not contract the disease. The PCR test are very sensitive. If the symptoms were HV-related, you would be pos". So, I was given sleep aids to help get through those two nights. Fortunately, the test came back neg, I can not let this go. I have not even had time to deal with the actual rape due to the great fear that Ihave contracted this disease.
Sorry for rambling, I just needed someone to talk to. These are going to be the longest four days-
Please pray for me that I get through this situation.

I'll be praying for you, for sure. You sound so stressed and I'm so sorry you're going through this. I think your symptoms are likely a result of great stress.

We're all here whenever you need to talk.

Hey, Im sorry for your ordeal, and you sound like you are coping amazingly well given the horrible circumstances. Your testing is incredibably encouraging, most who are going to test positive do so by the sixth week. Symptoms mean absolutely nothing, i have had and still am encountering problems including the glands and mouth probs. Listen to your doctors, they know what they are talking about. Good luck on collecting that more than likely negative

It seems to me that you could also be suffering from psychosomatic illness, in which your mind creates the disease. Because you know the symptoms of HIV, the mind is powerful and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy in which the symptoms actually physically appear.
