Hi,
I am starting to work in the morning and am going to be eating breakfast. I know there are regular frozen waffles, low fat,and fat free. There is also regular syrup (TONS of calories) low calorie (100, 25 g. of carbs) and sugar free (about 40 calories, 4 g. of carbs)
I want energy but dont want to gain weight with all of the carbs. What is a good combination?
:)

Hello, If your on a low-fat diet like me, I'd have one serving (2 waffles) of fat free waffles with my favorite Aunt Jemima syrup or 1 fat free waffle with a scoop of fat free ice-cream or 1 fat free waffle with syrup and cantalope, but it sounds like you're counting carbs. If you're on a low carb diet, then you have to read the label and count the carbs into your daily allowance. You might want to call on Arkie or Hunter for your question about carbs.

Please do not "buy into" the low-carb craziness. A balanced diet is very important and that in includes complex carbs like grains. I don't know you particulars that is whether you are just trying to drop a few pounds or are serious about losing weight (20+ pounds) so here goes what I know from reading and practice. If you want to reduce your weight and increase your lean muscle mass you need to go for a walk 20 minutes (1 mile) before eating anything. Then you need a moderate breakfast (less than 40 calories that is low sugar not low carb. Whole grains or oatmeal with a banana and a few raisins. This will jump start the thermogenesis process in your body. You should include aroun 500mcg of chromiun picolinate with breakfast and another 500mcg with lunch. This will help to stop any cravings for carbs later in the day. I read about this in Men's Health back in 1996 and have done it on and off when ever my weight crept up and sure enough doing this Monday - Friday for a month and I always would drop at least 5 pounds.

Thank goodness someone else recognizes the low carb, no/low fat crazy-diet fads. I eat whole grains - grind them up in my Vitamix. For "syrup", I mix chopped up dried apricots with raisins. I put them on waffles or pancakes.
No fat diets are dangerous. Everyone needs some fat in their diet. Whole grains are "night and day" different from processed or refined grains. :)
