Can anyone please give me some examples of what veggies and fruits I can eat on a low carb diet? I have had it in my head that the only veggies I can have are green beans and celery and the only fruits are apples. Am I wrong? Any help is so appreciated!

I personally think the whole idea of limiting yourself to only certain fruits and vegetables is ridiculous. ;) ALL fruits and vegetables are good for. :) And, actually, I heard that a study was made where people ate what they usually ate for every meal, but just added fruits and vegetables (no certain types in particular). And, it turned out that they ended up losing weight that way. Whatever you choose to do, good luck! :round:

If a person is on a low carb diet, does that mean that they are on a high fat or high protein diet? Why the restrictions on carbohydrates? I think rather one should avoid processed foods - the refined carbohydrates commonly found in white bread, cakes, cookies, pastries etc.

I eat mostly natural (non-processed) foods and exercise three times a week. I don't count calories, carbs or fat grams. It doesn't matter what type of fruit or vegetable I eat. I've been able to maintain my weight this way for nearly 20 years after initally losing about 25 pounds.

I'm actually interested to see if someone would answer you back, about what types of fruits or vegetables to eat. I wonder why people try all these special diets, when to me, it's so simple - it's just a lifestyle change of eating healthy and exercise. :)

KimberlyV,

Most low-carb veggies are green, with a few exceptions: alfalfa sprouts, arugula, asparagus, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, chives, cucumbers, endive, green beans, greens(all), kale, lettuce, mushrooms, okra, parsley, peppers(green only), radishes, scallions, sorrel, spinach, wax beans

Actually, apples are not the best in terms of carbs, but rather: cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, peach, orange, melons, grapefruit, lemon, lime

Some people do fine not paying much attention to what they eat at all. Others do fine counting calories. And others are helped tremendously by looking at their carbohydrate intake. We all have different genetics, medical histories, etc., and all need to find what works best for us.

Good luck!
