my son is having thoughts of killing people and is starting to pearce himself with saftypins. he doesnt want to have these thoughts. he is scared of these thoughts but he likes to pearce himself. he got cought at school.and they are very concerned so am i. he is only 14. i dont see any real other obsestions. but he cant handle how big the highschool is and it is making matters worse does this sound familar to anyone? any thought? please? cindy

if he doesnt want to have the thoughts then they may be from OC
the pin sticking probably reduces his anxiety I wouldnt worry about it, if stopped, he may start cutting himself
he needs more exercise,hobbies and playing sport and taking long walks to help relax him, IMO he is too young for an antidepressant med
be sure to tell him that you love him and that being 14 isnt always easy

I wouldn't recommend anti-depressants either, but that's based on my own personal experience. On the other hand, the anti-anxiety meds have been a big help with the worry. They might also result in the falling away of his thoughts of violence if these are predicated on anxious thoughts about the potential victims.
You might start with a visit for a "check up" with the 'family doctor,' if you have a doctor with whom you regularly communicate.
