Can fiber pills for constipation make you gain weight?

No, a diet rich in fiber can contribute to weight loss. However, if you don't drink enough water when you take the pills then you can experience constipation and bloating, which might make you feel heavier.

Exactly as surreal says, when you take a soluble fiber supplement (I use bulk psyllium) it will attach LOTS of water to itself as it turn to a large gel. It is extremely beneficial to the intestines and even sucks up some bile/cholesterol on the way out.

BUT the added water is heavy and usuually causes a spike on the scale. Nothing to worry about because it drops right back down after it's gone out the other end.

A large dose of psyllium usually retains from about a pint to a quart quart of water for me...1-2 pounds.
