In a word yes.

There are two types of fiber. Soluble and insoluble. Soluble like that in oatmeal has been linked to lowering cholesterol and may be linked to blocking some fats from being absorbed in the small intestine.

Insoluble fiber like wheat bran or flax when used in moderationn to suplement a reduced calorie diet can improve your results by increasing the velocity of material gooing through your digestive tract reducing the amount of calories absorbed.

A word of caution, as with any product there is potential for abuse. Many persons that have eating disorders abuse fiber and fiber based laxatives so they may eat and then purge their systems with fiber. This unhealthy practice can not only lead to a dependency on fiber or laxatives but can lead to increased appetite as the stomach is rapidly emptied and hunger returns with a vengence.

Some insoluble fibre on your plate is also going to help you feel fuller and more satisfied. If you have some high fibre on your plate, it's going to take more effort eat and ultimately make you feel fuller.

If your only veggies on your plate amount to mash potatoes and gravy, your going to be able to eat more then you probably should. Throw in some cauliflower, brocolli, etc..and you'll get both the health benefits and a more feeling of fullness.
