Some people think of corn as a vegetable but it's really a grain. Is it nutritious as a whole grain? So if I eat some frozen corn or a can of corn am I getting one of my servings of whole grain for the day?

Sponsor anitak1982 09-05-2005, 04:54 PM Is is super high in sugar and I cannot eat it as it spikes my blood sugar to high. Think "Corn Syrup" Your right it is NOT a vegetable but a grain. Kari7171 09-05-2005, 05:22 PM Yeah that is probably why my step daughters like it. They love sugar. For someone who doesn't have blood sugar problems is it healthy? anitak1982 09-05-2005, 07:09 PM Kari, let me clarify. I am not diabetic but have a low carb way of eating. Since I have had no sugar for over a year on purpose if I eat anything that contains sugar it spikes my blood sugar similar to that of a diabetic as my pancreas secretes insulin and after a bit my blood levels drop too fast causing me to have to lay down or fall asleep standing. It is an awful feeling and well.............I really hate sugar now. It isn't worth how awful I feel. I can always tell if what I just ate had sugar that I was unaware of, as I "always" crash. Lenin 09-05-2005, 08:49 PM Kari, Sure, the corn is aserving of grain. If you are eating the whole kernel. it's a whole grain. mquest 09-06-2005, 07:07 PM Corn has sugar, fiber, protein and other complex carbs; an equal amount of each. Not a bad food at all. But for those whose diets are restrictive, this may not be a good option. Corn syrup is just a byproduct; not the same thing as corn. Of course corn chips aren't the same as corn either. |
