Thanks for reading my post. I was diagnosed with HPV Genital Warts in the summer of 2003 and I had two warts then. I used aldara had an awful reaction and got them lasered off. For the past two years I have had re-occuring warts on my genitals. I have been going to a dermatologist to get them freezed off, and it hasn't slowed down the Re-occurances. I am getting outbreaks after outbreaks. Right after I go and get them freezed off I will get warts in a completely different area. They seem to be popping out everywhere, on my shaft, on the base of my shaft, and sometimes on my pubic line. Is this normal? I have read that your body usually rids itself or slows down the number of outbreaks you have over the first year. Well its been two years and there seems to be no sign of slowing down. Does this mean my immune system isn't good because its not fighting it off? I am a pretty healthy person, and I am hardly sick. I workout and eat right. Is there anything I can do to slow down the outbreaks? I have read a lot of the forums here and it seems most people only get a wart here and there every few months or once a year. I seem to be getting a non-stop re-occurance of the warts. Is it possible I have a different strand then most people? This has been an absolute nightmare and any advice would defintely be appreciated. Thanks :)

Yes I do masterbate daily but I do not have any warts on my hands, I was told that you can not spread genital warts if you masterbate as you can not re-infect yourself. Where do I go to get a biopsy performed? A Dermatologist? I will try taking a multi-vitamin to see if that helps. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am sorry to let you know this but you may be one of the few ppl to have re-occuring warts. Most ppl get rid of it after about 6 months. It is possible that you have have mutiple strains and since it sounds like you have continued to have sex they may be completely different from the original strain...I was diagnosed about 4 months back and I have elminated all my warts besides 1. I am hoping that I get it after 1 more cyro. Have not had sex for 6 months now...want to make sure my body builds immunity and not be contagious. Good luck and be careful!

If you have them on your hands you can spread them to your genitals. Yes, it's possible to have HPV on your hands.
Not exactly. HPV stands for Human Papilloma Virus, which basically means viruses that cause warts. There are over 100 different types of HPV, but there are only about 30 types of GENITAL HPV. You can get warts pretty much anywhere on your body. But for whatever reason, the different strains of HPV generally like to confine themselves to only one place on your body. The virus that causes warts on your hands likes to stay on your hands, the virus that causes warts on your foot likes to stay on your foot, etc. When most people talk about HPV, what they are really talking about (especially on this board) is genital HPV.
For example - I have both genital warts AND warts on my hands. Most likely these are caused by two completely different strains of HPV. The genital warts are caused by one of the genital HPV strains, and the warts on my hands are caused by some other type of the virus. That is why when you get warts on one part of your body, they do not usually spread to other parts. All the different types of HPV like to stay in their own "territory." So you probably do not need to worry about warts on your genitals spreading to your hands, and vice versa.
Now, everything changes when your immune system is severely compromised, from (for example) if you have end state AIDS, are undergoing chemotherapy, or have taken cortico-steroids long term. People with compromised immune systems CAN have outbreaks of the various types of HPV in places they would not usually show up. Such as genital warts spreading to your throat, etc. That type of thing is pretty rare and usually only happens to people who are very sick.
So, to get back to the beginning, you probably cannot spread genital HPV to other parts of your body (including your hands), you don't have to worry about touching yourself when you masturbate, and warts on your hands are probably not sexually transmitted.
I hope this makes sense. HPV is an incredibly confusing virus.
Good luck everyone.

yes analog that is my understanding too. The gentital HPV thrives off of the more moist areas on the body like the genitals, anus....and the other warts are cause by different strains. I agree that you cannot spread the warts to other parts of the body...if that was possible I know I would have some on my hands because well I like to masturbate from time to time :)

Yes, you are definitely not 'reinfecting' yourself. Seems more like you either have a particularly stubborn strain, or your body isn't buiding up the imunity it needs. I remember reading somewhere that certain veggies are supposed to be good against it (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts, all the yummy ones, lol) so maybe you could do some research to find out what the current medical opinion is on this.
