Has anyone else been diagnosed with thyroid nodules, goiter, or multinodular thyroid after starting treatment with a PP2 inhibitor reflux medication like Nexium or Prilosex?

I've been on Nexium 2x/day for Laryngeal Reflux for 2.5 years. This July, my PCP felt enlargement at the thryroid area. I got an ultrasound, and was told I have multinodular thyroid. Right now it's not a problem, but it must be watched for further enlargement. I'm wondering if PP2 inhibitors might be linked to thryoid conditions?

No thyroid problems here after reflux treatment for over 3 years on high doses. Could be unrelated. BTW, I think you mean PPI, standing for proton pump inhibitor. Maybe if you change your title you will get more answers.

funny u should say that ..Im on nexium but Im strongly suspecting I have a goiter ..my grandmother and aunt both had one ..I wouldnt even had thought about it but I just had really bad acid reflux attack and although the nexium seems to be calming it down I am still left with a chronic sore throat and lots of pressure behind my ears and feeling of burning within my ears also a pain from the back of my neck going down my right shoulder and some weird sensations going on in my neck ..but its the feeling of pressure thats worse..can u tell me if yu had similar symptoms
thanks

I didn't have any symptoms - my PCP felt an enlargement when I was in for my physical (I'm 31). She sent me to a radiologist for an ultrasound, which confirmed some enlargement - it's a multinodule goiter. My bloodwork came back normal, so I don't need to worry too much right now - but I was told to have a new ultrasound done every 3 months to monitor the growth.

I started this miserable gerd thing with a lump in my throat for several days. Went to the Dr. and had an ultrasound and set an appointment for the GI doc and an endoscopy (thank god I have good insurance). Ultrasound showed a thyroid goiter but small and blood work ok. Lump went away and I though that was that, until I started feeling like I was having a heart attack. Had no idea it was gerd until trips to GI and endoscopy. Was told they are not related, but stranger things can happen. I think goiters are pretty common and you may have had it for a long time and just now found out because of something else. Throat problems, more than likely due to gerd or LPR for most people. I don't think they bother you too much unless they get big and then you can have your thyroid removed if its very bothersome. Goiters are usually nothing to worry about, can just become a bother to you if get large.

Hey guys, I don;t know if they are related or not, but I was on nexium for a good while and later was diagnoised with a goiter. I decided to go ahead and have it removed although they said the biopsy came back negative. Boy am I glad I did! I went back for a checkup after the goiter was removed and found out there was a small amount of cancer in there that didnot show up. All my bloodwork had also showed I was normal...Don't want to scare you, but if you have a goiter I would get it checked and possibly removed. I know it has definitely saved me alot of problems later on with the cancer....

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism actually before I started taking PP2s for reflux. I have a small nodule that we are watching.
