How exactly does Topamax cause weight loss? Is it because it causes a decrease in appetite or is there some other way that it causes you to lose weight? I was just curious. I have been on a low dose for about 2 months, and I've lost about 5 pounds.

How exactly does Dopamax cause weight loss? Probably by killing brain cells. Be careful.

I only take 50mg per day.

I've been on it for 18 months, There are side effects that takes time for your body to get use to...I started out real slow and tirated up..Taking 200 mgs daily now. It helps me alot with nerve pain I have in my brain ( and with head pain also ) But it took me 6 months to get to 200 mgs, I took it slow. To get use to the side effects gradually. Another side effect that has been nice is the weight loss, 35 pounds and only 15 more pounds to go....I have no appetite and pepsi taste good now, Hugs, Cindy

For me I just have no appetite. I have to force myself to eat 1000 calories a day and that is still hard for me to get down. (i usually had no problem chowing down 2 servings per meal 5-6 times a day =) )

Topamax changes the taste of *some* foods & liquids & it makes you lose your appitite. However, this only happens to *some* people not all. It is one of the side effects.

I have been on Topamax for 2 1/2 years & lost 30lbs. Since I am normally small framed, (I am 5'6 & currently weigh 115lbs) what I do is walk & jump rope to stay toned as I hate excercising.
The good news, I can eat anything I want w/o worrying about gaining a lot of weight. :D

I am 55 years young but look 15 years younger as my belly is now flat & toned. I celebrated my last birthday by getting a belly ring-THANK YOU TOPAMAX!!!!

Maybe next year I'll get a tattoo & my nipples pierced! :D
