i just had a cavity filled yesterday. they said it was deep and that sometime down the line i would have to have a root canal probably. today when i touch the tooth with my toungue i get a sharp shooting pain. not real sever just noticable. like and exposed nerve. it does not ache and ddoes not thump. it is not heat or cold sensative. i can chew fine but sometimes when i chew i get that sensation. is that becuase i just got the filling put in and it still alittle sensative? or did they not do the filling right? thanks in advance

Yes it should settle, if it doesnt then you may need root treatment.
It usually hurts because the filling is near the nerve and it takes a while to settle.

Did they have to drill alot out?
I had mine done a few weeks ago and the dentist said if I had waited I would have needed a root canal (so a step below severity to yours). It hurt for hours, and the next day was sore. Even now, it aches a bit in the morning when my sinuses act up.
I was told that any time they get the nerve it will hurt for longer, since it's been manipulated and prodded.
