I found out recently that what my docs thought was shingles is actually oral herpes, a gift from my husband of 37 years. I have bouts that last for two weeks or more with the breakouts all over the sides of my mouth, inside my lips, down my throat, on my tongue and for the last two weeks on the sides of my tongue way in back causing sore throat, swollen glands and sore ears. Rarely I have outbreaks on my lips and face but I always seem to get double duty outbreaks. Does anyone out there have this? I haven't seen anything anywhere that seems to be like my outbreaks. I am on a maintenance program but I could use suggestions. It is so painfull and I feel so ill when I have them. Does anyone know where I can get more information.

Wow, that really doesn't sound like oral herpes. Sometimes the primary outbreak can be that severe, but I don't think I've ever heard of such intense recurrent outbreaks - particularly if you're on suppressive therapy! I think I'd look for another doctor, maybe an infectious disease specialist... this sounds miserable :-(
Hope you feel better soon!
