I used to be very obsessive about anything I ingested. I didn't take asprin or similar OTCs for several years -- even when I had pneumonia.
Having an 8-month old baby with strep throat started me on the "road to recovery" from that obsession.
Regarding meds for depression, obsession, etc., I first tried anti-depressants in the 70's when I was in my early 20's. They were pretty scary then, and I didn't take them again until I was 50. They're not particularly less scary now (that is, for me and my personal chemistry), but I reached the point where I was desperate to gain some control over my behavior -- and my boss was pretty desperate for me to do so too (talk about incentive to change!).
So I've been trying a variety of cocktails of drugs as my psychiatrist attempts to balance out my various personality disorders and physical reactions.
Lexapro made me quite happy, but it also made all the muscles in my body spasm and tighten. But I don't think that's typical.
Maybe just tell yourself you're only going to try one pill one time, and focus on getting that far.
If not, lying to your docs is, well, counter-productive, don't you think?

serious person thx , yes i feel lying to my dr. is counter productive. i guess i feel as thoughi have a prob with my ocd but i feel i can control it if i wanted to but i sometimes cant.my depression is mild but i did lose my brother exactly 1 yr ago and he was murdered so i get upset about him and his death but i feel that is a normal reaction.i am glad you shared your experience w/me it kind of helped. i am not afraid to take tylenol or something if i have a serious fever but that rarely happens to me.i feel soon im gonna get desperate also so then im gonna have to make myself eat the lexapro i am a 32 yr old single male and i am also a lil concerned about what it can do to a man finishing the job during sex so i will see... thx again serious you helped..

I would advise you to take your Lexapro. I have been taking it for two years for my OCD after trying numerous other meds. It has changed my life with no bothersome side effects. My OCD is most of the time 95% better. Good Luck.

My ocd is pretty severe or at least causes bad anxiety and depression, can u tell me a little more about yourself or point me to some posts please as I am nw. Hope its not too much trouble

I went to my closet to decide what to wear to work the next day...
Typically, it takes a long time because nothing seems to match.
Even as a young child I was most supremely happy when my sneakers, socks, and the trim on my shorts and shirt were the exact same blue. Ah, for the days when there just weren't very many shades of very many colors used in textiles (the 50's).
...But the first time I looked at my closet on Lexapro, I thought almost out loud, "What a nice lot of clothes I have," and they all seemed to harmonize.
Darn side effects!
