Hi guys, Its me again! My surgery is in 3 days and I am driving myself crazy with worry. I saw my doc the other day and he is taking EVERYTHING out, which means hormones of course. I went to see a hormone specialist because of the increased risks involved with HRT's and I found that I can take human identical hormones that are suppose to be better for you. So that's what I am going to do, at least give it a shot. Its called 'estrodiol' and also progesterone 200mg. Has anyone else gone this 'all natural' route?

I am excited to have the surgery, but I can't believe how freaked out I am. I am so worried I am making myself sick!

Anyone out there that has tried this hormone alternative, please reply! I could use any information I can get!

Hi Lil`Pea,

Im using estrodiol in the patch form. I also use progesterone OTC. You can get the estrodiol in creams, patch or pills. I've had no problems using the patch, feel great on it. As long as I remember to change on time I have no menopause symptoms. My hormones are now steady, which means no PMS..

I added the progesterone after I had been on the patch for a while. Its helped alot with insomina and joint pains. I have read that natural progesterone will convert to estrogen or testosterone if you are lacking them. Its great that you are seeing a hormone specialist who can guide you though this.

My only problem was the estrogen cause the endometriosis to flair up again after surgery, so I had to go off for a few months a couple of times.

Ya I was very worried before surgery too. Wish I had known it was going to be easier than my imagination was telling me. My biggest fear was having my ovaries removed, worried I wouldn't feel normal again. But its normal for you to feel worried, try to keep busy the next couple of days so you dont dwell on it.

Good luck and keep us posted on how your surgery goes..

Hi spongebobgamma!

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I really appreciate it. I am relieved that you also use the estrodiol. How often do you need to change the patch? Does it go in the same spot everytime? How long have you been on it?

I feel a bit better today as far as the worrying goes...my surgery is day after tomorrow, so the REAL nerves will kick in tomorrow night! lol....I was told i can ask the doc when I get to the hospital for some ativan or something like it. That way I am already relaxed and sleepy before they even put me under.

I also have Irritable bowel syndrome which doesn't help the nerves at all...when i get nervous or anxious, my stomach hurts SO bad! I think that ativan might help me keep my nerves under control.

Thanks again for your reply. Its amazing how much these boards help, isn't it?

Hi Lil`Pea,

Ya these boards are great..It just helps to talk to someone whos been thought it.

I remember those night before nerves,, I've had a few surgeries and its always the night before thats the worse for me. When I got to the hospital for the hyst they gave a shot of versid (sp?),, I call it the happy shot...I didnt care what they did after that..just let them know how nervous you are..

I had my hyst 4 years ago, was on lupron 3 months before surgery, then no hrt for 3 months after. Then I was able to start the patch, Dr wanted to kill the endo.. but the estrogen flaired it back up so I had to go off 2 more times.. but I've been on it for 2 years now with no more problems. I change it every 7 days, I find different spots on my lower stomach. You can also use it on your bottom, but it wont stick for me there. I use the climara patch,, but theres also the viville that you change every 3 1/2 days. I like it better than a pill cause it releases slowly into the blood, more like what my ovaries would.

Hope this helps.. if your really nervous tomorrow call your Dr for something to help you relax the night before..

Hi everyone, and thanks for the support. Its amazing how much it's helped me calm my nerves. I have to say that the internet sure doesn't do much for that department! TOO much info! lol....

Well, I am on the big countdown now. I have to be at the hospital in 18 hours. I can't believe its actually here already. Seems like a week ago that it was 2 months away!

I will be started on estradiol, although i don't know the dosage yet or the means...patch/pill/cream? I like the idea of the patch because its hard for me to take pills everyday. But in this situation, i will do whatever works best! I think my hubby may be able to help me remember to change the patch-afterall, its him who would be directly affected if I turn into Cruella Deville! :dizzy:

Thank you all again...I will have my pc at the hospital with me and SHOULD have internet access. If not, I'll let you all know as soon as I get home to let you all know that all went well.

Keep me in your prayers!
