Hello, I think it all depends on what diet you're on. Healthy snacks to me would be fresh fruit, lite string cheese, and vegies. Somewhat harmless (I did not say totally harmless, because too much of these may not be a good idea for me while they may be ok for someone else.)snacks are snacks I eat, but try to limit the amount of those type of snacks. Somewhat harmless to me are things like popcorn, (It depends on what is on it, so it can fall under the healthy category.) fat free chips, (I have got to have my chip fix, sorry guys.)baked tortilla chips, pretzels, beef jerky, cereal, (Got to have the sweetened stuff) rice cakes or treats, corn cakes, nuts, homemade low fat/fat free desserts, low fat granola bars, and seeds. Things I consider evil for me, but do occationally have some (half to 1 serving.) Hersey's kisses, Sweet Tarts, low-fat Doretos, and sour gummy worms. Stuff I will not touch are store cookies, regular chips, healthy choice products, candy bars, and snackwells. This is cool. What's eveyone else eating?

Magpie,

Just curious. Why no Healthy Choice products?

I am a health-food person. The snack that I have during the day is usually fruit - an apple most of the time, other times it will be strawberries, grapes, pineapples (but they have a lot of sugar). Other snacks that I consider healthy are light fat-free yogurt and cheese sticks (they even have some with reduced fat!). I am trying to think of what else I can eat for a snack other than fruit, and I have been considering maybe apple sauce, graham crackers, and Fig Newtons. Also I've been looking for granola bars that don't have so much fat/sugar.

Healthy Choice products are pure junk. They may be low in fat, but are loaded with carbs, sodium, and a ton of chemical preservatives and artificial flavors. There is nothing healthy about them. Try to eat fruit, or carrot sticks.

Hello, I don't use Healthy Choice snacks, because I'm on a low fat diet. Those snacks, especially the cookies and candy, still have too much total fat in them. According to an article I read in the FDA Consumer, foods labeled "low fat" aren't always low fat. The term "low fat" on the label just means that they are lower in fat when compared to their counterparts. Yes a Healthy Choice candy bar "only" has 8 grams of total fat, but that's only 2 grams less than a 3 Muskateer and it's smaller to boot! I don't like the taste of the TV dinners, plus I have found that Smart Start (From Weight Watchers) has less total fat. (Not that I eat a lot of TV dinners any more. My last TV dinner was 1 year ago.)As far as the Healthy Choice cookies go...I can make some really mean/lean brownies in 1/2 hour. Now if I could only stop eating the whole pan of brownies in 1 1/2 days! That's why I don't make brownies too often. For the cheese, I prefer lite string cheese, lite Velveeta, lite Phillie cream Cheese, (Neufchatel)and lite Laughing Cow. What's really good is lite cream cheese on a fat free cracker with a slice of olive on top.

Is an apple with about 2 tbsp. of peanut butter a healthy snack? I was craving something sweet and instead of hitting the several several boxes of girl scout cookier, I decided on peanut butter...

Peanut butter while high in fat is a very healthy snack, provided it is an all natural peanut butter. Not Skippy, Jif, Peter Pan or any others that use lard, or vegetable shortening.

Hello, There is no comparison between an apple and PB with cookies of any kind. An apple with PB really is a great snack! I like to add cinnamon to my apple and PB. The apple is the main healthy component. An apple is loaded with vitamins, fiber, and pectin. Ever hear the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away?" The an apple can also be used as a natural laxative/stool softener. PB is high in protein, which is great for a growing boy/girl. The only draw back with PB that I see is the brand name ones may not be too good for us "old" folks watching our cholesterol. The brand name PBs are high in sodium (salt) and contain trans fats. The fresh ground PB with nothing added is a better choice for us "old" folks.

The peanut butter that is natural, does it taste the same as Jiff? I love that stuff. I could eat a whole jar. Which wouldn't be good.

Hello, I've always liked the natural one better, but that is my preference. It's less salty and not as sweet. It's also not as smooth. I really wish it were as cheap as Jiff, but then again...The natural stuff is really fresh. They make it everyday in our grocery store. Another thing is that you have to store the natural stuff in the fridge, because there are no preservatives.

A healthy snack for me, is spoonfuls of sunflower seeds mixed with raisins. They really fill me up, when I'm hungry and they are very nutritious. Other times, I'll just have fresh fruit like bananas.

Let's see, here are the healthy snacks I eat:

Whole fruit (not processed fruit products)
Almonds and walnuts (EFAs) Still have high calorie counts and are fats, so eat in moderation (handful per day)
Veggies (on occasion I will eat a tomato and I eat a ton of raw spinach)

These are just a few that are "portable". I eat other stuff such as tofu, chicken breast and so on as snacks, but that is not "conventional" or convenient for most people.

I personally love Mott's Fruitsations cup (the pineapple pleasure ones have only 49 calories.) They are very satisifying. If you're into veggies, 1/2 cup of peas or corn is very good too, although maybe not as satisfying.
