My ocd has been pretty tame for about a month now but last night it wanted to make sure I knew it was still there I guess…

Here is the story: yesterday morning I woke up feeling a bit off, lots anxiety for no real reason and a bunch of racing intrusive thoughts. Ok no big deal I have went through that a lot before I know what it is and I know it can’t hurt me. As the day went on I started feeling better and my mind calmed down quite a bit, my wife and I even went out with some friends and had a good time.

Now it gets weird: when I was getting ready for bed last night I noticed my toothbrush was not where it should be. It had been moved from one hole on the holder to another. As soon as I saw this my mind just went nuts with “what if” thoughts, “what if” someone was in our house when we were out and put poison on my tooth brush and then if someone was in here “what if” they messed with something else.
It just kind of went on from there and I ended up throwing my toothbrush out and just using mouthwash. I didn’t think to ask my wife if she moved it till after I was done freaking out. And it turns out she had moved it at some point that afternoon but I didn’t notice it until I was getting ready for bed. So after learning that I felt pretty stupid and the what if thinking went away but the anxiety stuck around for a while after.

I really don’t know why I freaked out over that. I don’t have a compulsion to have things in order or anything. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? I am just glad I found the reason for it being moved or I would still be freaking out I am sure.

i take xanax on a as needed basis.. works really good for me as it seems to chase out the thoughts before they become obsessions. i didnt take one last night because i was able to get a reason to why my toothbrush was moved and that shut the ocd up. but if i had not had a reason i probably would have had to take one because there is no way id be able to stop thinking about it on my own..

what is cator oil?

castor oil is put is some shampoos not many but some i dont know exactly what its for but it seems to trigger something in my head and makes my ocd way worse, my famiy thinks its all in my head but im 32 and i know how i have felt all my life so i know it makes it worse. but i do alot of stuff like you were saying like i trip out though when i go down a shampoo isle praying i dont get any on me or breath it in , yea its sounds lame but its true, embarrassing too. ocd has messed with my relationships with females and im a slightly above average looking guy but ten i get totally obsessed with sex in a relationship and my ocd kicks in im nice then i dont think we should be dating its crazy. praying lexapro helps....

wow that sucks! i hate how ocd can do that to us. i get worried like that also when i go to my family Dr. during cold & flu season. ill sit there and think he probably didnt wash his hands before he came in to see me and what if he just saw someone with the flu and now he is getting the germs all over me. i have actually had times where i come right home and take a long shower because i had to wash off the "what if" grems. i have worked myself up so much over this at times i was actually feeling the symptoms of the flu within 1/2 hr. i cant stand how our minds can make us feel sick when in reality there is nothing wrong with us.

Interesting about the castor oil. Castor oil is my friend. It's used in skin care products because of it's soothing properties on skin. If I don't wear a castor oil-based (and unscented) lip gloss without petrolatum, I get really bad chapped lips (from obsessively pressing my lips together, which exposes them to the moisture in my mouth).

But castor oil is also taken internally as a home remedy for constipation. Perhaps you were given it for this purpose as a child, and it was a bad experience?

Punkdrizzel, my OCD and depression have been life-long companions who support each other, much to my detriment. I remember as a small child, laying awake in bed at night, and ritualistically going through everything bad that had ever happened to me. This obsessive activity was, of course, very depressing.

I'm not sure you want to know. It's in most lipsticks and lipglosses.
