Well first of all you need to get rid of all the junk food in your house and make it inaccesible to you. Don't buy the chips or cookies or ice cream in the first place and you won't be able to get them easily when you're bored. Keep lots of fresh fruits and veggies around, chopped and/or washed in bowls or baggies so you can munch on those when youre bored.

Secondly, you need to find ways to break your eating habit when you're bored. Start by substituting the food for healthy stuff like fruits and veggies. Slowly decrease the amount you eat while youre bored, by either physically putting it away or by portioning your snacks beforehand. Then just eliminate it altogether. Find other things to keep you occupied- surf the internet when you're bored, looking for new recipes, shopping tips, horoscopes, quizzes, etc. Buy some magazines or a book and turn to that when you're bored. Start a craft project like sewing a sweater or knitting a scarf..it sounds old lady-ish but everyone does it now, and when you finish a project it's so cool to hear people admire something you've made yourself. Look for other things to do than EAT- and there are definately other things to do.

After you've got that part under control, start cutting out other junky foods that you routinely eat, even if youre not bored (liek chips, cookies, candies, etc). Drink only water, low fat milk and tea/coffee (occasionally), and maybe some healthy juice like pomegranate, in small amounts. Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks regularly to keep your hunger under control. Choose whole grains for carbs and not processed white flour or sugar products (ie choose whole grain bread/pita/muffins, brown ror wild rice, ww pasta, potatoes,etc). Eat lean meats and especially fish when you can, and cut off the fat that you can before cooking. Avoid using excess butter or cheese or oil, but when you do use heart healthy stuff like olive or canola oil, low fat cheese for calcium. Eat loads of veggies and fruits. Go for a walk or walk to places whenever you can. Small changes like this may seem exactly that- small, but put together they can have a big impact. Good luck!

The following have helped me;

Portion Control - measure out food onto your plate. Eat about the size of 1 or 2 clenched fists

Chew properly - take a small tsp of food, chew it till it is completely liquid and only THEN swallow it. Put fork/spoon down inbetween mouthfuls so you don't feel tempted to keep adding food before yo'ure done with the previous mouthfulls.

Balance carbs with protein - If you must eat bread, at least have some protein with it. Try not to eat JUST carbs coz you'll feel ravenous soon after

Don't eat late - Eating late will make you feel starving when you wake. Instead, if you must eat late, try and limit yourself to some fruit or something light.

Remove temptation - If you don't have chips in your house, you won't eat chips. Stock house with lots of nuts, hummous, fruit, yoghurt etc.

Don't deprive yourself - If you want that bi-weekly pizza or chinese food, get it. Eating well is about moderation NOT total deprivation.

Learn to cook - If you can make healthy meals, you'll eat healthy meals. Try vegweb or epicurious for great healthy menus.

Good luck
