hello i'm 21 and decided to go vegan. I went cold turkey yesterday... I just wanted to know what most vegans eat.. i honestly don't like the "fake" meat and cheeses.. and i've never tried tofu... i've been sticking to beans, potatoes, lots of greens, and tons of fruit... also .. has anyone lost weight from being vegan.. my body fat percentage is high... that's partly why i went vegan, and also because my boyfriend made me watch peta animal cruelty videos:) thanks for your help!

hey congrats on the decision to go vegan.
i went vegan at 21, too! i did it for the animals after seeing some bare bones footage and photographs, probably like the ones your boyfriend showed you. i'm 25 now, and still vegan. you can have a lot of fun discovering all the thousands of great foods that are out there that are also vegan!
here are just a few:
stuffed grape leaves, hummus & pita bread, felafel and tahini, amy's california veggie burgers (not a meaty style burger, but made with nuts and veggies) sunshine burgers (same kind of thing), cereal and soymilk/rice milk/oat milk/ almond milk, pasta with tomato sauce or olive oil garlic and herbs, stir fried veggies and tofu, tofu dredged in batter (like shake 'n bake, some of which are accidentally vegan) and baked with mashed potatoes and veggie gravy, cheeseless pizza with all the veggie toppings you can pile on, oatmeal, pancakes made with soymilk and Ener-G egg replacer or applesauce instead of dairy milk and eggs, toast with earth balance or other vegan margarine and jam, bagels with nut butter or tofutti better than cream cheese (this stuff is amazing!), rice paper veggie spring rolls with peanut sauce, soy ice cream (soy delicious and double rainbow soy cream are The Best!), veggie fried rice, salads with a nice vinaigrette or brianna's poppyseed dressing or other good dressings, cucumber and red onion sandwiches with Vegenaise (if you like mayo, you'll love this stuff), silk yogurt, tempeh (a high protein food made from fermented soybeans. it's very hearty and delicious), baked marinated portobello mushrooms, veggie fajitas with tofutti sour supreme (sour cream substitute), uncle eddie's vegan cookies, etc.
there is SO MUCH great stuff out there.
i was also pretty overweight when i went vegan, and i did find it easier to lose weight once i made the switch. i had been eating a lot of cheese before hand and giving that up really helped. i was about 100 pounds overweight. i'd still love to lose another 10 pounds, but i dont have any problem staying at a normal healthy weight anymore. and i do love love love love to eat. lol.
good luck! if there's any other way i can help, let me know, ok?

oh, i don't have a problem getting enough calories. i could easily pack in 3-4 Thousand calories a day if I'm not careful! LOL. It will get easier once you get into the swing of it-- seriously, it'll be second nature before long.
