Starving yourself is not the answer to losing weight, it will cause your metabolism to shut down and hold onto the weight for fear of starvation.

First of all, see your doctor to be sure you do not have a physical problem that keeps you from losing weight. Have your thyroid checked and many other things that may contribute to overweight besides eating too much food.

Eat 3 meals a day, light meals, balanced for good nutrition. If doctor says it is o.k. EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE, etc. Do not sit in front of T.V. or computer. Become physically active. Be sure to eat only normal portions of food and no seconds. Calorie counting is great when trying to lose weight. Figure out how many calories you need per day and then choose foods and portions to be a little less than that. Weight will gradually drop off and you will be surprised. Supposedly reducing your calorie intake by 500 calories per day will help you lose weight. Be sure and count every calorie consumed, even a bite here or there, it all adds up.

In order to lose weight it is great if you can practice putting an "invisible zipper in closed position" over mouth when in presence of food other than your 3 regular meals. Drink plenty of water and stay away from soft drinks, candy, cookies, vending machines, etc.

Starches and sweets are usually considered as fattening foods. Fried or high fat foods also. If you go with baked, boiled, broiled, stir-fry foods, lots of green veggies, moderate amount of meat, will be more healthy. Pasta, pizza, etc. are very high calorie. Try to stick with a low calorie balanced diet.

Losing weight is not just doing something now, but making a lifestyle change for life. Some of us have been battling a weight problem for years, it is hard, but if we make up our mind we want to lose weight and stay healthy, we will make the right choices in foods and exercise.
