Hey Everyone,

I had a rough night last night and have had no sleep.. my mind was racing so bad that everytime I thought I was drifting off to sleep I'd be jarred awake with more thoughts. I had a psych appt today and told my therapist and dr what has been happening. I have been having racing thoughts, or repeating thoughts often. I thought that maybe it was OCD or something, but they said that it was from anxiety.. anyone have racing thoughts?? I tried everything to get to sleep but I was just so upset thinking the worst that I just stayed awake. I was also told that I have GAD, is this a part of it? I feel so keyed up and on edge all of the time. Anyone with similiar experiences? Its tough having Agoraphobia with panic disorder and now this? Now I am worried that I will have trouble sleeping again. These thoughts are just controlling my life. Help!!

these unwanted thoughts could well be from OCD which is an anxiety condition
relaxation always helps

Hey faeriegirl:

Do you have any medication to help you calm down when you are having obsessive thoughts? When I realize I'm doing that sometimes I take a half a Xanax, or I try to do something like housework or gardening. Talking to a friend always helps. If it's in the middle of the night that's hard to do, so if you don't have any prescription meds, maybe you could take some Benadryl or other OTC sleep aid to help you sleep. Take a bath or have some herbal tea...sometimes that helps me too. I hope you feel better!

I have generalized anxiety disorder and yes I get the racing thoughts sometimes when trying to get to sleep. They are weird and bothersome.
I agree with hry and srmom on ways to get through it.For me I take a ativan every night before bed,or I probably wouldnt be able to sleep either.
