Hi I have not posted in a while I had a seizure this morning at 5 a.m. and I woke up exhausted and just really depressed. I have been doing really well in that i have not had one for about two months and for some reason todays just got me really down. Does anyone else sometimes feel like that? Also this may seem weird but I am 30 years old and was wondering if you can out grow seizures. The reason why i ask is because the ones i have are called simple partial complex seizures. Thanks

Hi... I understand the feeling depressed after a while of not having seizures. I'd had pretty good control (complex partial, probable simple partial, and some generalization after the CPS) for quite a while, then moved to a different climate, blah, blah, blah, and now am off work (for last 16 months) because of in increase in seizures (usually along with infections, but then there's usually a while where things are unstable for a while, even after the infections clear). It is depressing. I'm 40+ years old, and had been doing my line of work for 19 years, with the occasional sick day here and there, but still able to be productive. It's also frustrating to want to be what I used to be like, but because of all that's gone on, other medical stuff has been a mess, and with no prescription plan/insurance, I've got to get used to all generic stuff, when I was getting brand long acting stuff. I think it's probably normal to be bummed about this when it starts acting up again. Since April of this year, I haven't gone more than a week without some sort (also have night seizures- wake up with tongue chewed, cheeks chewed, sometimes lose bladder control), and it wears me out. I understand what you're saying. But all we can do is take meds, let the docs know, and do the best we can, ya know? None of us asked for this, but we have to move on the best we can, and sometimes it feels lousy. Hang on to the good days.

I think it is "normal" to feel depressed after one. FOr one thing your brain is still recovering from the seizure itself and the chemistry and misfiring changes in your brain can bring on depression. It is also part of dealing with a chronic health condition to feel down about it at times. Depending on what part of your brain seizes, depression is also pretty common along with epilepsy. Temporal lobe especially seems to have depression as part of the package.

Most of my son's seizures are in sleep and he can be really down after some.....you almost feel like they will go away when you have a time of control and it all crashes in when one comes back...

As a mom of kids who have seizures, I have also felt depressed when they hit...

(((hugs))) Hoping you have time to rest and recoup today and feel better tomorrow. Hang in there!
