Milissa2005 06-25-2003, 01:57 PM what is the atkins diet...i'd like to try it Sponsor auntjudyg 06-25-2003, 02:10 PM VERY briefly, the Atkins diet has one cut back on carbohydrates (initially to very low levels) in favor of food rich in protein and healthy fats. Before beginning the plan, it is best to read his most recent book (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) to get the full picture. foshizlejewizle 06-26-2003, 03:00 PM I heard that it's not very healthy frm some people, and very healthy from others, so I;'m kin of lost as well. All I know is that it's something about the combo of carbs and protein that breaks down food ito sugars which makes ppl gain lbs. SO...I guess Atkins is natural, but I would find out the risk factors before diving inot anything. Justa thought :-) ------------------ luv y'all, ~liz~ bradford54 06-26-2003, 07:54 PM You need to read his book But you basicly stop eating all refind sugar and refind grains and starch's . I am a big beleaver in the atkins diet 60-70 pounds lighter and no more BP RX emptynester 06-28-2003, 03:41 PM I was very successful while I was practicing Atkins, but I personally could not keep it up as a lifestyle. I gained it back +++. I now just concentrate on eating 6 vegetable servings, 4 fruit servings, no white food (potatos, pasta, white bread, rice) and fish or chicken or turkey breast. I occaisionally have a granola bar, egg, lowfat cheese, Italian Ice whatever, but I am practicing moderation and portion control in all that I eat. I do have a bingeing disorder and Atkins seemed to exascerbate that disorder. A regular exercise routine has really helped kick start my metabolism. I have walked 4-6 miles every single day for the last 12 weeks rain or shine and I do resistance training every other day alternating with yoga or tae bo. I am burning between 500 - 800 calories a day in just structured exercise. Which is alot considering that I spent the last few years in an extremely sedentary lifestyle due to orthopedic problems. By consuming 1600 40-30-30, protein/carbs/fat, and maintaining my activity level, I have lost weight and many, many inches and, it is something I am comfortable enough with that I can maintain it as my lifestyle. |
