View Full Version : Is it wierd to have symptoms with HBP?

First time here. I'm a 38 year old male and have developed HBP in the last few months. What seems odd is that, even though everything I read says hypertension is symptom-less, I can EASILY tell when my BP is elevated. My hands feel tingly and I get a very distinctive headache and a strange light-headedness. Am I alone? Should I suspect something else?

Thanks!

no Jeff you are not alone. I do not get the tingly hand thing but I do get pressure in my head and neck. I know when my bp is up I don't care what they say abput it...Lisa

Thanks to Moxie for the reply. I'd really love to hear from others too. I guess it's a blessing because I wouldn't know my blood pressure was high if I didn't have these very pronounced symptoms.

What's odd is that my BP is not remarkably high -- maybe 140/90 at worst -- and I just feel AWFUL. I feel so edgy and distracted and have such a headache that I have a hard time focusing. That just seems so different from what I read about. It makes me wonder whether there is something else going on and the BP is just a side effect?

I would love some insight or reassurance from others with similar experiences.

By the way, I exercise regularly (quite vigorously) and have never smoked or drank in my life. I do carry about 20 extra pounds (eating is my passion -- but I've been doing better there lately).

Would love to hear from you,

Thanks!

Jeff

Hello Jeff, I have the same symptoms but my blood pressure goes to 150/100 (without medication). I feel that I can't concentrate, light-head, confused, eyes flashing and tired. Anyway, I can tell you that everybody is different and I know someone who has a blood pressure of 180/130 and he says that he feels normal.

Are you sure that your HBP is 140/90? not more than that?
I'm on medication (Atacand) and my bp is 120/80 but I still have some minor side effects from the medication but I can say that it's the best medication I have been on.

Good Luck Jeff

My theory is that the symptoms (headache, etc.) are causing elevated BP. I don't think it is the elevated BP you are feeling. But, rather, when you feel those symptoms, your BP goes up as a result of the symptoms. Thus, when you take your BP, there is going to be a relationship.
